Blessings in the Airport

I am writing this blog from the Atlanta airport, which has seemed to be my home for the past two days.  Yesterday, my whole team and I were supposed to fly out of Atlanta to Amsterdam at 5:30 pm.  I was so excited to finally get to leave for Kenya and to begin ministry there.  After spending the entire day at the airport ( a wonderful day, full of conversation, laughter, and anticipation), we arrived at the gate, brimming with excitement. It was there that we found out that the airline had overbooked the flight, and 7 out of the 14 people on our team didn't have a seat on...

Leaving Our Logs Behind

It's been four days. Four days since I left everything I knew to be comfortable behind, and said goodbye to the people who mean the most to me in life. It's been four days and I already feel changed. God has moved so much in all of our hearts since we have been here and it's awesome because this is only just the beginning. The other day we were given the opportunity to write down all of the things holding us back in life. However, we didn't write these distractions and burdens on paper! We wrote them on our very own logs. Yes, logs made of trees. After I had finished...

So Long Self, I’m Free to be Me

Fear. This was the ruler of my life. Fear of rejection, fear of abandonment, fear of making mistakes. For many years I was afraid of people. My fears turned to shyness and shyness resulted in appearing like a snob. And so, not many people know the real me because I did not let them. Then summer of 2010, God placed me on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic that clearly changed my life's path. Scared out of my mind, I went on a one week mission trip with a group of 58 people I did not know. This was way out of my comfort zone, as never felt comfortable around people unless I had...

Steadfast Love

"Because of your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.  So, I will bless you as long as I live; in Your name I will lift up my hands"-Psalm 83 About 4 months ago, I answered the Lord's call to go to Kenya and love on His people there, to teach them about His love, to tell them the life changing gospel.  I chose to listen to God and go on this trip, thinking that He would be using me to change peoples lives.  I knew that I, too, would be changed after this trip, but I didn't realize that God would bring more life and transformation...

The Beginning

Many of my teammates are writing blogs about expectations of Training Camp, but I sort of knew what to expect.  My most ardent blog followers will know of my previous involvement with The World Race and the adversity I encountered during Training Camp in May.  Those experiences are what led me to defer to the Kenya Real Life trip.  I realized that I was nowhere near ready enough to give up 11 months to God.  So now here I am preparing to depart for Kenya for 3 1/2 months.  Am I ready? Upon arrival in Atlanta this past Friday, we were shuttled to a homeless shelter...

When God Shows Up

How does one recognize when God shows up? God is always reaching down from heaven to hold us, but sometimes we just can't feel His loving arms around us. Well, I discovered these past four days of training camp just how often God shows up in tangible ways. I just didn't recognize the signs before. My trip got off to a rocky start when my flight into Atlanta for training camp was delayed about three hours, making me late for the designated arrival time. As I waited in the airport, panic and anxiety set in. To pass the time, I read my Bible and daily devotional journal. The...
