The things you learn…

These are some of the things I have learned while being in Kenya about African LIfe. Cars and bikes before pedestrians on the street and sidewalks Clothes are never clean, even after washed Chipote and Mandazis are my favorite foods here 2 hours late is the norm Waking up at 7:30 is considered sleeping in for me Fruit is much sweeter here I have an average of a 3 hour service of church and there are 2 services Bota Bota races are more common between the drivers than the people riding them I haven't used a toilet in a month—just a squatty Children...

Love My Children

Sorry it has taken me so long to post! The internet here has been difficult. These past few weeks have been busy! My favorite part has been spending time at ‘Mama Orphans Children’s Home’ which is only about a three minute walk from the church we are partnered with. Vincent and Bahati, two (about) eight year old boys, have found a special place in my heart. I look forward to seeing them every day don’t know what I’m going to do when I have to leave! Unfortunately, I have to be married to adopt boys in Kenya. Other than food, the biggest struggles for children...

Well, This Is Africa

I've been here for about a month now, so I feel as if I've learned a few things y'all might want to know. Here are a few rules/things I've learned about Kenya so far: 1. Don't drink the water. You'll most likely get a parasite. 2. Showering can only do so much, your feet will never be clean. Never. 3. African time is much different than American time. Go ahead and add about 2 hours to whatever time they give you. Example: Last Sunday we were told we would be eating lunch at 2. We sat down to eat around 4:30. 4. There is ALWAYS room for one more. We take Matatu's...

School is NOT for fools

In America we are blessed with education.  Even if we cannot afford it there is always free education.  I always took this luxury for granted.  I often complained about going to school and how useless it was.  I was so wrong.  God has been teaching me to WAIT on Him.  That He has a perfect plan and perfect timing for everything.  Before I came on this trip, I was dead set on moving to Africa and dropping out of school.  I thought that school was pointless for what I wanted to do.  God has been slowly revealing His plan for me and teaching me...

Scraped Knees and Patched Up Hearts

So this week has been interesting. It’s been one of the worst and one of the best on this trip so far. Last Monday was a good day, but Monday night was really hard. I felt so spiritually empty and dry. I guess I had just been putting it off so I wouldn’t think about it, but in our small groups we all voiced that we all felt the same and there was no more denying it to myself. I got really frustrated and upset about it so I grabbed my iPod and went and sat on the steps outside and kinda had it out with Jesus. I told him how exactly how I felt and as always, he...

Blue Triangle

So let's be real here…it's been quite difficult hearing God on this trip thus far. This week has been especially hard. Beginning Monday, we fasted with our church and we were told that instead of having a set schedule of ministries we'd have an ATL (ask the Lord) week. I was really pumped about this because I knew that it would give me an opportunitiy to hear clearly what God was trying to tell me. Monday was our day off and right from the start, I was frustrated with God. We've been on this trip for almost a month and since we've landed in Kenya I haven't been...
