So today we woke up and went to the hospital to pray healing over sick people. When we got there my translator Jonah said that he couldn't translate for us because he had a bad toothache, and it hurt to talk. He is never only there to translate, but he also enjoys helping others and telling people about the Gospel. He has such a big heart for people. Despite his pain in his mouth, he couldn't help but to ask what was wrong with the people in the hospital so that we could pray for them. During our door to door ministries if we are stuck on what to say next he explains the Gospel...

Watching from the sidelines of God’s playing field

Oh heyyyyy! So many things have happened since I’ve last blogged! God is working in our hearts as a team and individually. I came here expected big, tangible changes of the Holy Spirit. Now I’m sitting in Africa seeing big, subtle changes. Through door-to-door, relationships with our African brothers and sisters, interacting with the kids, and learning to seek Christ as a group, God has taught me that a relationship with Him requires discipline, patience, and a focused ear to hear His gentle voice. Last week, Devan, Victoria, James, and I met an old man named Joseph. He has...

Trust not on your own understandings

It is so easy to go about life based on your own feelings. I was never a fan of short term missions but this trip has changed my mind. I felt that we came, brought hope, the name of Jesus, and some physical help to the people, but I felt that them we left them out to dry. I didn’t see any follow-up with the people. How can this be building up God’s kingdom? Well that is where the problem is.  I am forgetting that God is the ultimate power. I subconsciously doubt the power of God. I don’t trust that God has a plan for everyone, not just me. Jeremiah 29:11 says that God...

Eyes Wide Open

Every Tuesday morning we go and visit the hospital in town to visit and pray for the sick. The hospital is like no hospital in the states. The walls are covered in filth, the beds reek of vomit and urine, there is no privacy for any of the patients doesn’t matter what sickness they have. As you look around you see minimal supplies, and used syringes laying about the hospital.   On this particular morning as we were going around from bed to bed praying for people and we came across this three week old baby. The little baby was in the hospital fighting off Malaria since she...

A Gift From God

Last week we did door-to-door ministry. We broke up into groups of 2-3 people, each group with a translator, and we were released into the town of Mpeketoni. My door-to-door group consisted of myself and Jenna, and our translator, Moses. Our first attempt at door-to-door ministry was probably one of the most awkward experiences of my life. The woman we tried to talk to wouldn't look at us and she got up and walked off while we were mid-sentence so she could go get her cell phone. Needless to say, when Jenna, Moses, and I left there, we were feeling rejected and a very...

The Mysteries of God

I find myself sitting in a goat terd infested field with an old man named Lokichar.  He is the grandfather of our translator Samuel.  Samuel explains to the five of us that he has told his grandfather about Jesus many times, but he just wont except him into his heart. He knows that Jesus is good and true, but he is just waiting on what I did not know, but by the looks of him he didn't have much time left to be messing around with.  So we start to pray and ask Lokichar what he is waiting on. I look into his old eyes and see the many years of hard labor staring back at...
