IDP Camp! AKA best day of ministry so far!

I thought my heart broke when we went to the tribes in the bush of Africa. And it did break over the things that we saw and experienced there. But that heartbreak was nowhere near what I felt when we visited the IDP camp this week. We went to hand out food that our team purchased. When we arrived, the people staying there were in the middle of their church service. We were invited to sing three songs (nothing new there :P),as well as give a testimony and a sermon. After this, we played with the kids and began to hand out the food to the adults. We were able to provide one small bag of...

Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Gentleness. Faithfulness. Self-control.   ^ Against these things there is no law.   If there is one thing that God has laid on my heart on this trip, it's these things.  Weird for a mission trip, right? Galatians 5:19-26 "19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild...

Sew Happy

For the past two weeks or so, our team has been back in Kijabe, getting used to the ministry here.  We still have one more tribe to go to on Thursday for two weeks, but until then we will be working in the hospital.  We didn't really know what to expect when we went to the hospital the first day, and while we were sitting in the Chaplain's office the only thing we really got was that we would be evangelizing to patients without a translator.  Sounds…fun.   We split off into teams and went to our assigned corridors.  I was lucky enough to be placed in...

Meet my best friend, Isabel

We have been back in our home base of Kijabe for the past week and it’s been awesome! Most  of the team was sent to work in the AIC (African Inland Church) hospital, but two volunteers were needed to work in the preschool nearby. Since I love kids and nearly pass out at the sight of blood, my hand happily shot up at this opportunity. As the teacher introduced me to the small group of 3-5 year olds, I was greeted in unison: “Hello, how are you today?” … Good, how are you? -“Fine, thank you.”. Within minutes we were all best friends and I was being...

The Boy That Stole My Heart

Walking along the hospital corridors you see people lining the walls waiting to see a doctor. Hospital waiting rooms filled to overflowing with people just waiting to be seen. As you walk further into the hospital you find yourselves in hallways lined with doctors, and nurses bustling around in a hurry to go from room to room to see as many patients as possible. Kenyan doctors will stop to say hello and greet us, while American doctors who are volunteering will give us quizzical looks as to why a group of Americans are wandering the hospital everyday. It is a chaotic blur of events that is...

Boring Love

A few weeks ago, my team and I were out doing door to door evangelism in a Kenyan town called Nkubu.  One morning, we came to the house of a man named Joseph.  We soon learned that Joseph believed himself to be a prophet and was believing a lot of spiritual lies.  To be honest, when we first foudn out about Joseph, I was excited.   I was ready to go to war and to see my God win.  And so we talked/debated with Joseph for awhile and prayed for him and left.  No big spiritual show. ...
