tornadoes ,dirt and fire oh my

AHHHH so it has been 2 weeks here in Kenya and we have been with the Massai tribe. i have only showered once and have taken a couple bucket bathes. i have learned that my white t shirts will always have a nice brown tint to them and that dirt has permenatly stained my skin. i have been in 98 degrees weather during the day and 37 at night…my body is adjusting well haha. beans and rice is my new favorite! i have also survived a dirt storm/ tornadoe! that ripped our tent onto the church building and bent the poles of my tent. But while here God has been so good to us, i have never met a...

I brought people to Jesus!

Africa has been quite the adventure. It's been one of the most challenging experiences of my life. I have doubted my ability and stability for the last few months, but God has been sure to show me my inner strength. There has been times were  debated going home, but here I am with only three short weeks left. I can almost say, I did it! I have always questioned my ability to talk to random strangers, let alone Kenyan's who dont speak english. So it was a stuggle for me to do door-to-door ministry at first. When we were told that we would be staying with three different tribes...

Just 11 Women in the Middle of Africa

Let me take you through a day in the life of eleven hormonal girls who have lived throughout Kenya for 77 days. Not only have we literally lived in the African bush for six weeks, or lived in tents and slept on sleeping pads for two and a half months, or cried because we haven't showered in an entire week, or cried because we have nothing clean to wear and want an actual wardrobe, or just cried for no reason, we've done it all together. The relationships that have been built in our little community cannot be explained in words. It is a special bond that we all share. Everyone is so...

A Human’s Perogative

What do you want to be when you grow up? It's the question we've all heard over the years repeatedly. For a few years my answer was lawyer, and then it was teacher. Then it was veterinarian, a writer,  wedding planner and a full time missionary. I guess it's safe to say that as we change over the years, so do our goals and aspirations. I've always been the kind of person that likes to see the long term plan. I was the kind of person that applied an entire year early to college. Well, the more I learn on this trip, the more I find I am no longer that person. Before I...

Shine a light

Let me give you a little back ground info on the IDP Camp: These people at the IDP camp live everyday just trying to make it by. Most of these people lost absolutely everything in the 2007 elections, everything down to the clothes on their backs. The government brought them about 3 hours away from their home town and gave them $100.00 dollars to live on. Each family in order to actually build a home on the land they had to then buy the land, but for most of these families they simply lived in tents for they couldn't afford it. Most of these people don't have jobs and do what they...

Sitting Down and Waiting For Death

Imagine this harsh reality for a moment: You could potentially die if you don't get to a hospital soon. But, there is no such thing as dialing 911 because there is no ambulance that will come. There is no hospital close by and no vehicle to take you to a clinic. Not in the bush of Kenya. You have no money to rent a vehicle and the roads are too poor for public transportation. Walking to the closest clinic will take precious time and energy that you do not have to spare. Even if you do manage to make it to a clinic, you have no money to see a doctor or pay for the medicine. So when an...
