I want you to imagine with me for a few minutes…imagine your leaving behind everything that has been known to you, everything that has been a comfort, all of your friends and family, your church, your work, your homes, your rooms, beds, bathrooms, clean clothes, personal space…EVERYTHING that has been a comfort to you or has been taken for granted. Imagine you meet up with a group of people at an airport and wait around for the majority of the day not really knowing why you are sitting around. Imagine with me that you have to take all of your luggage, backpacks, guitars, and any personal things you have, and you and this group of people have to get from the airport to a certain address you where given to in a letter with only forty-five dollars. Total pandemonium starts up and the group of people you are with start to try and figure out how to get to this address because you only have thirty minutes to get there. Somehow some way you make it to this place with everyone and all of your stuff. The address leads you to a homeless shelter right smack-dab in the middle of down town Atlanta, Georgia where you will be staying with forty-one other people in close courters. Seem like your having fun yet? Now imagine you’re in a meeting on the top floor of the shelter sitting on the ground with all the other people and you get told that you are going to go out and walk the streets of Atlanta and minister to the homeless! For the next several hours you have to start to break out of your shell and learn to talk to complete strangers about God! You have to learn how to speak life into people like you and me, who have problems, who stumble and fall everyday, who are hungry for the Love of God even if they don’t know they are. You have to pray with these people and try to meet their needs that they might have…and this is all happening in the SAME DAY.
Turns out these people you are with are amazing…each one of them in their own way. You all get along great and become a family within a day or two. Now imagine with me that you are at a camp in the woods…it has a lodge, a few cabins, and trees EVERYWHERE! For the next three and a half days you will learn things about God, about yourself, about your teammates and you will begin to learn what it means to break free from the bondage Satan has placed in your life…you are beginning to realize the true potential that God has placed inside of you by giving you the Holy Spirit. Imagine with me that your teammates, your family, are becoming as one form…a form for the Spirit of the Living God to work through and will change lives with. Imagine with me that over the next four months you and your new family are going to be traveling to Kenya, Africa to turn the cities upside down for Jesus Christ…by the power of the Holy Spirit you and your family will begin to shake the cities of Africa to change lives. Your life is taking a drastic turn…a turn for the better…a turn that will form the way you view life.
My name is Kolby Hogan, and this is the beginning of true adventure…will you join me?
