To Be Continued

Today I went to the largest slum in Africa: Kibera. As soon as I entered the van my heart hurt for the sites we were going to see. It was endless metal and mud shacks and in the distance you could see the skyscrapers of the city. It was heartbreaking to see such poverty in such a westernized and developed city. I’m still processing the whole thing so this post is going to be left as “To Be Continued” so I hope that you will check back in to read the rest of my thoughts!

The Tree and Me

About 2 weeks ago, my team and I went on a safari in a big, old, battered truck.  We all clamored into the truck's bed and I decided to sit with my buddy, Kolby, on top of a bar that happened to be 6 feet above the bed of the truck. As we we driving along, we had to dodge the tree limbs that were hanging over the road…for the first few times, we had to do it, I did a good job of diving out of the way of the branches and there leaves. However, as we turned down a smaller road, I did not see a tree, and I got whacked in the face by a bunch of branches, got knocked off the bar...

Have you ever been TAIZED in the Holy Spirit?

So I want to start off by saying, Have you ever been taized in the Holy spirit? You are probably wondering what I am talking about, and this is exactly it…. Last night I was at our worship session for debrief, and there is something I have been holding on to in the fear of offending someone or thinking one of my team members would look at me differently. So, as I stand in worship I feel a restraint, like I just can’t go on like this anymore, I just want to be free… Free in my worship, free in who I am in God, and Free in the gifts he has given me. I knew that this was my...

God sized Dreams… Do I dare?

I walk towards a two year old orphan named Samson who is afraid of Mzungoos(white people) determined to make this kid like me before I leave. An hour later he is asleep in my arms. As I am holding one of God's most beautiful creations I look to my right and there lies both his parents graves. 6th day of crusades at a town called Mhamarani. 6 days of holding and loving on kids who are desperate for some attention and love. 6 days of opening up my arms where kid's can find rest, comfort and safety. 6 days of confirmation that God has given me the abilities to impact kids lives...

A Life Changed

This is Samuel. He's 20 years old. His life has been anything but easy. His parents died when he was young and he went from living with his grandparents for a few years, to living with a few friends, and during all of this he had to be separated from his brothers and sisters. As you have probably figured out already, Samuel is an orphan. Over the last two weeks of our stay in Mpeketoni, I was blessed with the opportunity to become friends with Samuel and learn about his life. He wasn’t in school because he didn’t have enough money to even start high school, his job was...

The door without a key

In Matthew 18 God talks about the faith of a child, i thought i knew what that meet until two nights ago. my perspective on a child like faith has been shaken up and poured out. Two nights ago during worship the spirit rocked my inner soul to the core, it wasnt until afterwards i had to reasure myself that what i felt was real. I thought to myself…why would i ever have to reasure myself, that is beyond selfish and insucure. All of a sudden i understood Matthew 18, its not how we worship or how we love God that needs to be like a child, its our certainty of our feelings that need to be...
