The MZUNGU’s are here!!!

Well, we made it to africa! It took a long 30 something hours on planes and in airports, but we finally made it. Africa is so beautiful. Our first 2 days were spent in Nairobi in the most amazing hostel in the world. Its called the Milimani Backpacker, and I love it. Our days in Nairobi were limited to the hostel, and coffee shop down the street because of safety reasons. Interesting fact about Africa, when you order a coke they ask you if you want it hot or cold. I didn’t know people would actually choose to drink hot coke? I enjoyed every single minute of our time in Nairobi, and...

This is Africa.

So far, in the past two weeks I have been in Atlanta (Georgia), Frankfurt (Germany), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Nairobi (Kenya), and now Busia (Kenya). We have lived on air planes, hostles, and now houses. We don't have toilets, hot showers, or beds (some of us). We have made up games, learned some, played a LOT of football (European), danced, sang, and have eaten…lots. It has been nothing like I have expected…how could it have been? The children are nicer than I have expected, the bathrooms are less visable (lol) as I expected, the church is more excited than I expected, and...

Take a Step

I have taken many steps in my life. More than anyone can count. The most important steps in my life though have taken place most recently. I have taken a step to believe in God. I took another step. This step was a bit bigger. I answered His call to apply for this trip. The next step I took was second nature and that was saying yes to fully commit to raising money, packing up everything for two months, and fly to Africa with complete strangers. Every step that I have taken have led me here. AFRICA! Kenya to be exact. This step has changed all my future steps. If God wants me to do...

You ain’t lovin’, if you ain’t shovin’

"You ain't lovin', if you ain't shovin'" A quote from one of my teammates as we squeezed our entire team (23 people) onto a bus. Rule #1 about Kenya: there is always room for one more. Alright friends, this is my second attempt on writing a blog post before the power/internet shuts off so these are going to be short. BUT I will be happy to tell you all about my adventures when I return =) Rule #2: Kenyans have no concept of time. For example: breakfast was supossed to be at 9am this morning. We didn't sit down to eat till after 11am. Yes, this comes with a more...

One big ol’ African smorgasbord

Welp, we’re finally in Busia! I am so glad to finally be here…despite the fact that I’m soaking in my own sweat as I’m writing this. It feels so good to finally be in one place knowing that we don’t have to travel anymore. Let me tell ya…I have ridden many a plane and bus in my life but never have my feet been so swollen or my derriere so asleep and numb. When we finally got to Kenya we stayed in Nairobi for a couple of days. We stayed in this super sweet hostel called Milimani Backpackers. I have made a mental note to go back there one day. I met some...

I’m in Africa! Ken-ya dig it??

Hello from Kenya!      After three plane rides, a mini-bus airport taxi, multiple taxis to the bus station, and a nice 10 hour bus ride to Busia we have finally made it to Busia, Kenya (our home for the next two months). We spent our first three nights in Kenya at a Hostel in Nairobi, it was a nice little place but we were all ready to get to Busia. We arrived in Busia Saturday evening and were picked up by Pastor Gideon (PG) and some of the other members of the Deliverance Church. We are doing all of our ministry through this church and I can already tell it is going to be...
