One big ol’ African smorgasbord

Welp, we’re finally in Busia! I am so glad to finally be here…despite the fact that I’m soaking in my own sweat as I’m writing this. It feels so good to finally be in one place knowing that we don’t have to travel anymore. Let me tell ya…I have ridden many a plane and bus in my life but never have my feet been so swollen or my derriere so asleep and numb. When we finally got to Kenya we stayed in Nairobi for a couple of days. We stayed in this super sweet hostel called Milimani Backpackers. I have made a mental note to go back there one day. I met some...

I’m in Africa! Ken-ya dig it??

Hello from Kenya!      After three plane rides, a mini-bus airport taxi, multiple taxis to the bus station, and a nice 10 hour bus ride to Busia we have finally made it to Busia, Kenya (our home for the next two months). We spent our first three nights in Kenya at a Hostel in Nairobi, it was a nice little place but we were all ready to get to Busia. We arrived in Busia Saturday evening and were picked up by Pastor Gideon (PG) and some of the other members of the Deliverance Church. We are doing all of our ministry through this church and I can already tell it is going to be...

God is so good.

Guess whose safe in Busia, Africa? I am! From our hostel in Nairobi we took a 9 hour bus ride to Deliverance church in Busia. I am staying at Pastor Gideons house along with 6 other girls and the 4 boys. The 7 girls stay in one room with 2 beds. 5 girls stay in the beds while we have one girl on the ground and one in her hammock. Its quite cozy with us all squished in there. I am in LOVE with the Kenyan people. Everyone is so happy and kind all the time. I got on the bus to Busia and there was a lady already sitting in the seat next to me. After we got to talking, I figured out that her...

Take a Step

I have taken many steps in my life. More than anyone can count. The most important steps in my life though have taken place most recently. I have taken a step to believe in God. I took another step. This step was a bit bigger. I answered His call to apply for this trip. The next step I took was second nature and that was saying yes to fully commit to raising money, packing up everything for two months, and fly to Africa with complete strangers. Every step that I have taken have led me here. AFRICA! Kenya to be exact. This step has changed all my future steps. If God wants me to do...

Nothing BUT room!

Hi!!! I am safe and sound in Busia kenya!! We spent 3 days in nairobi kenya which was amazing.  We went to the internet cafe and met a man named Cosmas who is AMAZING!! He invited us back to his house and church.  He wants us to meet his family.  He lives in Mombasa which is on the coast of kenya. He assured us if we come visit he will take us to the beach so we all promised we would be back next summer.  We also had the BEST mocha chip ice cream sundae in the ENTIRE world (kristen you would have been in heaven).  We had a ten hour bus ride to Busia filled with...

Habari (The Real Hello)

After 24 hours on planes and nearly 50 total travel hours, we are finally made it! On Thursday we finally got off the plane and came to our hostile. Milimani Backpackers, which we would be living in for the next two days (three nights) in Nairobi. We felt like kings here! We had bunkbeds, hot water running water for showers, amazing food, and even a television (which we watched part of a very scratchy and probably bootlegged version of the Lion King on)! Unfortunately, we were restricted to our cozy little compound and were only allowed to visit a small internet cafe called the Java House...
