God Wants To Talk To Me? WHAT?!

Coming to training the only thing I expected was preparation for Kenya. Instead, I got a little chat from God.             Before I could never tell if God was talking to me or if my brain was talking to myself… That makes me sounds like a crazy person, but I’m sure you’ve thought of that too, right? Wednesday I asked my leader “How do you know when God is talking to you.” She gave me a pretty good answer, but I was still a tad confused. Also, I was convinced that God just didn’t want to...

“KEN YA” believe we’re going to Africa?!

When I told everyone back home in Ohio that I would be at training camp for one week in Georgia, I bet they were picturing what I had been picturing for so long. Sleeping in a nice building, eating lots of food, being clean the whole week before we left, and especially being comfortable. This week has been none of those things, but for so many reasons this week has been so much more. The Adventures in Mission's staff have trained us physically, mentally and most importantly spiritually.  God has been so evident in every moment of this week whether it was trying to sleep in the...

New places, New faces.

Training camp wasn't about comfy chairs, good food, nice sleeping quaters or cleanliness. It was about training to be physically, emotionally and spiritually ready for these next four months in Kenya. I have learned so much about who God is and what an amazing plan he has for my team and I.  One of the most memorable times of training was the first day we got to camp. After arriving and dropping off our bags at the cabin we were told to grab three items that we wanted for the rest of the night. Three items seemed like a lot, until I had to chose between my tent, sleeping pad,...

We have reached the Mother Land… Or Close Enoiugh

So even though I'm on a plane on my way home I'm gonna try to do a quick fill-in of my past 2 weeks.  Last week we went to Challenge Farm in Kitale. The easiest way to explain it is like a boarding school for street kids, buts it's a home. Mama Cheri started it in 1992 and now they have over 130 kids. I made great friends with 3 girls named Maggy, Diana, and Alice. Everyday they wrote me notes about how much they loved me and that I was like a mother to them. Needless to say, when we left, it broke my heart when they started crying as I told them goodbye.  Saturday...

2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore is anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come."      This probably sums up my entire trip. At the beginning I had a heart with bandaids on it and now there is a healing heart with only a few scars, but the heart is beating like a whole new organ.      I have seen people go from doing drugs, to throwing themo n the ground and accepting Christ. My eyes have seen hope in the eyes of the hopeless on the streets, healing in the sick, thankfulness in those who have...

I’ve Got An Itch.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved to travel. Visiting family in the summer time, going away to Young Life camp and spending weeks on Summer Staff have always been the highlights of my life. Though in the past couple years, I felt an itch for more than a few days away. And not just to a state with luxurious beaches, but to Africa. This itch started with my nursing career so I could help people all over the world. Medicine is universal, the human body fascinates me, everyone gets sick and I love to serve – it all added up perfectly. So I chose my nursing program and got...
