My New Home

So I find myself standing in the airport in Nairobi , Kenya and the reality that I will be spending 4 months in that country didnt hit me yet. Around 20 hours of flying is never fun and I never felt happier to be standing in a long line waiting to get my visa. I stretched my legs and twisted my ankles and I knew something was wrong. My skin felt so tight around my ankles and I looked down at my feet to see that I had the fattest cankles ever. Seriously there were rolls of puffy skin taking over my ankles. I freaked out! All I could say was "oh no no no why is this happening??" So everyone looked over and when they saw my ankles they busted up laughing. Everyone looked at our group like we were crazy, which we were all used to, and I started laughing to, I guess it was KIND OF funny. I guess it is normal to get swelling around your ankles and feet when u travel for a long period of time.

As we were on out 14 hour bus ride from Nairobi to Mpeketoni the swelling went down from my ankles to the top of my feet and my toes. It wasn't a fun feeling, trust me. When I was on the bus ride I realized that a lot of things were different in Kenya compared to Chicago. If we saw monkeys on the side of the road we would think that the Lincoln Park Zoo had loose animals, but in Kenya they were just monkeys. In Chicago the only banana trees you would see were the ones on the internet but here in Kenya they are as common as pine trees. The body odor is also extremely different, lets just say its bad, very very bad.

So right now I'm sitting in Bishop Maurices home, my new home, and the reality has definitly kicked in. Our team is so blessed to be in this home. I thought we would be sleeping in tents, taking showers out of buckets, and barely getting enough food to keep me satisfied. Instead i'm in a home with steel doors, 5 bedrooms, running water, so much food it is impossible to finish, and roosters that wake us up at 5 a.m. Ok maybe I want to kill that rooster i mean they do kill the chickens so why not? But other than that God has blessed us so much and we are beyond happy to call this place our home.Everyone back at home i don't miss you yet sorry!! HAHA Don't worry I will……eventually. 🙂

In Christ,

Debbie
