Guess whose safe in Busia, Africa? I am!
From our hostel in Nairobi we took a 9 hour bus ride to Deliverance church in Busia. I am staying at Pastor Gideons house along with 6 other girls and the 4 boys. The 7 girls stay in one room with 2 beds. 5 girls stay in the beds while we have one girl on the ground and one in her hammock. Its quite cozy with us all squished in there. I am in LOVE with the Kenyan people. Everyone is so happy and kind all the time. I got on the bus to Busia and there was a lady already sitting in the seat next to me. After we got to talking, I figured out that her name was Emma!! How awesome is that? She works in Nairobi and was going to Busia to visit her Mama who struggles with ulcers in her stomach. Emma works at Operation Hope in Nairobi which helps AIDS orphans and vulnerable children. She wants me to come back next summer and work with her and go door to door to deliver food to orphans and widows and their families. She gave me her email address and I gave mine to her. When she read mine she gave a little yell and said, "Oh praise God!!" She pulled out her identity card and it read Emma Loice. My email address is emmalouise because some friends back home call me Emma Louise. Emma said, "Look!! We have the same name but different spelling!" God is funny, isnt He? Thats just the truth. Look what he did for me? I made a new friend and contact in Africa who has the same name as I have. Emma got off the bus a little ways before Busia and we all waved goodbye. We made one more stop before Busia, and as we were waiting for the traveller to get off, I spotted a little boy just watching us. I waved and shouted a greeting of "Habari!" as he made his way to the bus. He reached up and grabbed my hand that was hanging out of the window, flashing his bright white smile. In that instant my heart melted and I knew I was supposed to be in Kenya this summer. God is so good. He is the one who somehow got me here to Africa, while all I did was say yes. I am so excited to see what this week has to hold and what God has in store for me. Please pray that I will use the Lords strength and not my own. Pray that I will love these people in anyway possible, no matter how uncomfortable I am. Miss you all! Thanks for reading!
Kwaheri!
