Love is not a language

My time in Kenya has begun in full force! So far it has been a reminder to me of what authentic love looks like. A feeling that evokes every emotion and action.   We are swarmed by the bright faces of children daily. My heart has gravitated to a young boy, Felix. He seems to find my hand everyday to slip his into, followed with a shy smile. We have exchanged love since I have only learned to speak a little Swahili. I have discovered he is a Compassion child. From what I have observed I believe he lives in a very tiny wood shack on the street. I do not yet know if he is...

Why live for tomorrow when God gave us today

These two weeks have been mentally, emotionally, and spiritually stressful yet it has been the most moving experience of my entire life. I started another blog before the trip so I am going to combine this blog with sections of my other blog. My other blog is jaczi15.wordpress.com MZUNGU; DAY EIGHT I am never leaving. Mom, Dad, and Zeke I will see you my new address ASAP. Okay but back to my fantastic first day is Busia Kenya!!!! Mzungu, how are you, I’m fine This is how we are greeted by literally everyone. I’m Baaaack!!

So, I'm back in Africa. I did not think it would happen this soon. I'm surprised at how much I forgot about it. It's not the easiest thing in the world to adapt to, but I'm loving the chance to get back into it. We have some incredible pastors here at the church we are working with. For starters, they speak English very well. But they are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. And our chef is incredible! haha. We are so blessed here in Busia. It can be hard at times, but we're adapting, stretching, and growing. Sorry for the short blog. I...

It gives you chills

Jambo! We are here! After meeting my wonderful team at training camp, travelling for three days straight, staying in a lodge for a surprise few days, and moving constantly – we have made it to Busia. It has not been easy at all. I will be honest and say that I naturally miss home a lot. Though despite this, the children really bring so much joy. The smiles across their faces when they see a mzungo (white person) as they run and jump into your arms. The only way we can communicate is through love as we cannot communicate very easily through words. It is like they adore us, always...

Let’s Get Down to Busia-ness

Can't believe I am saying this, but I am officially blogging from Kenya! As I write this, I am sitting in an Internet café in Busia, where my team will be staying for the next 2 months! We have been here since Thursday, and these past few days have been full of plenty of culture shock (spoiler alert: no toilets) and lots of adventures. All in all, I cannot begin to say how much I love being here with my team. The Kenyans are wonderful hosts, as evidenced by their joyful shouts of "Mzungu-mzungu-hawayou?!" (Swahenglish for "White person! White person! How are...

Saying Goodbye

My time in Kenya is quickly coming to an end.  It is hard to believe that it has been more than three months.  I am excited to be home, especially with Christmas being so soon.  I am super excited to catch up with my family and friends before I jet off to the next adventure that God has for me in Spain.  I am not so excited to being leaving my teammates.      I have loved my last three months in Kenya because I got to spend it with seven amazing women of The Lord.  I can't imagine a more perfect plan than the one God had by...
