Kenya Dig It?

So this is going to be an absurdly short blog post, but short is sweet.  Anyhow…this has been the most intense two weeks of my life, and not just because we're in tents… All expectations have been shattered and Ive been stuck scrambling to pick up the pieces.  To be honest, there has been a lot going on in the past fortnight that has genuinely defeated me.  But there was a silver lining somewhere amongst the grey clouds of my mind – I was able to teach on Wednesday! For those who may be unaware, I graduated this past May with a Bachelor's degree in...

Not Your Typical Love Story

She was eight years old when she was chosen to be the bride of a man 26 years older than her. On Sunday, it was her wedding day.             All week I had been hearing rumors about an upcoming wedding. This was exciting news, especially to the girls, since weddings are a hot topic in our group. It was exciting until we met the groom a few days before the wedding. When we first approached the man and a few of his friends to share the gospel, he said he was sinless! This really surprised me...

Miracles and the Spirit of God

Who doesn't want to see a miracle? What is a miracle to you? Giving sight to the blind.. hearing to the deaf. Of course those are the miracles I "expected" to see and wittness. But no… I have not experienced those. What I have experienced though is God transforming lives. I'v experienced walking into a mud hut and feeling the presence of the Lord. I have experienced seeing children who have NOTHING… have EVERYTHING. I have looked into eyes of unexplainable joy that obviously comes from the Lord. Four other teammates and myself walked into the yard of...

One Day for the Salvation of Many

One day in the life, that's all we're guaranteed. When we wake up in the morning, that day is our gift from God to use for His glory. How many days have been ordinary? How many days have I wasted? But today was not one of those days. Today was far from ordinary. Another ministry day, we did door-to-door visits. But as we have been doing this for a while now, it had begun to feel repetitive and tiring. To make matters worse, I didn't sleep well last night. Being obedient to the Lord's wishes, I continued uncomplaining and was greatly rewarded. The third home we visited, a...

You Know You’re in the Bush When…

You know you're in the bush when… children must literally run beside the bus to show the driver the way to the village. the driver gets out of the bus to find a path to drive down so we don't get stuck in the mud. the driver asks directions from a man on a bicycle. you wake up to a symphony of animal sounds, such as donkeys, chickens, roosters, sheep, goats. donkeys "hee-haw" so loudly that they sound like they're dying. the village has a hyena trap and shows you how to set it. you hear a hyena in the field at night. there are no...

Leaving Our Logs Behind

It's been four days. Four days since I left everything I knew to be comfortable behind, and said goodbye to the people who mean the most to me in life. It's been four days and I already feel changed. God has moved so much in all of our hearts since we have been here and it's awesome because this is only just the beginning. The other day we were given the opportunity to write down all of the things holding us back in life. However, we didn't write these distractions and burdens on paper! We wrote them on our very own logs. Yes, logs made of trees. After I had finished...
