A Blue Rubber Band

The first time we went to the IDP camp was eye opening to say the least. We drove for about an hour in the rain, all quiet and not really knowing what to expect. When we neared the camp, we observed the barren land, tiny cement houses ( courdesy of habitat for humanity ) stray dogs, and a large crowd of smiling faces and squealing children. We'd look behind us from inside the vehicle and see little kenyan children running like mad, trying to catch up with our bus. So when we finally stopped, you can imagine...

Did You Know….

Most of these refer to our life in the bush of Africa for the first six weeks of our trip. Life in the bush of Kenya living with tribes tends to be pretty entertaining… who knew?! DID YOU KNOW… – You can hydro-plane on gravel – Pregnant women give birth and home and do yard work in between contractions – We are all qualified to teach any grade any subject here in Africa – I MILKED A CAMEL! (who knew that was even possible..?) and a goat. – In the African bush its necessary to watch closely where you walk beacuse your surrounded by trees and...

Having Faith Even When Its Hard

My heart has been twisted and truned from the things I have seen and stories I have heard. My eyes have been opened to see beyond my own little workd. I have seen pain and suffering, homeless families, starving children, sickeness, evil – Sometimes I can't help but argue with God, "Why are you allowing these things?" One of our first days of ministry in Kijabe was going to the hospital. We go around the hospital and talk to, encourage, and pray for the patients. It is difficult because many times there is a language barrier and no one around to translate. I have begun...

Life in Kenya

While we have all had so many emotional stories that have forever changed our lives, we have times here in Africa that we just have to laugh. So I thought I would enlighten those at home to give you a bit of insight to what other things we have been experiencing.  -African time | When someone says we need to be somewhere at 9, you can usually plan on starting around an hour or more later.  -Road Rules | There are none. It's a constant game of chicken, literally. Everyone passes everybody and when there is a speed limit, it is never followed. We are use to having to stop for a...

If drama was an emotion

Drama was my middle name growing up. It was so rooted in my brain that in order to get attention or to feel noticed I would start a little show. Even as a young adult I will catch my self-starting a show, or saying things just to see if people are really noticing me.                Even now, I like to put on a show for God. I like to take what he tells me and run with it in the wrong direction. I like to battle him see if I really need to do what he is telling me to do, or if I could possibly do only half of what he is telling me to...

to AIM staff — :)

To whom it may concern… but mostly Kelly,   We would like to take this time to nominate my fearless leaders Nikki and Neal for TEAM LEADERS OF THE YEAR!   Seriously, we could not have asked for two better people to walk in God’s light and lead us into our fullness. They hold us when we cry, and make us laugh we need it most… They work together like a puzzle and are nothing short of perfection! They perform major surgeries, support spontaneous haircuts, act as human heating pads during “those times”, and are very supportive of...
