Bugs in the Peanut Butter

Now you may be wonering why I named this blog Bugs in the Peanut Butter. Was it because there were actually bugs in the peanut butter? Nope none at all. The real reason is because of a lesson that God showed me, and because I wanted a catchy title. Peanut butter right now is something that reminds me of home because it is something that we eat here a lot and it is something I also eat in America; therefore, peanut butter is comfort right now. When there is a bug in my peanut butter it isn't so comforting anymore. God is kinda the same way. When we are...

Choosing Joy

As we finish up our second week of ministry, I've come to realize how important God's preparation for this trip has been. He has always known that I would be in Kenya for this summer, and He has continually been preparing my heart and spirit in order that I may glorify Him the most in my time here. One way He has prepared me in order that I may live up to what He has planned for me is by instilling in me a spirit of joy. Over the past year and a half or so, the Holy Spirit has consumed me more and more producing overwhelming joy. Which is to be expected since one of the fruits of...

I’ll Be Rolling Myself to Church

So this week has been pretty crazy. We have had our 6 am prayer meetings, playing with kids while they’re on break, crusades in the afternoon, then supper, and revival until after 10. Needless to say, I’ve been exhausted at the end of the day and my sleeping bag feels like heaven. Tile floor never felt so good. 🙂             I also did get some down time this week though which is good. We each had a night off from the crusade and revival, and mine was Thursday. I had a good time with Nate, Josh, Brad, and Christina going...

Boda bodas and futbol

There is so much I wish I had the time to tell you about in my blogs, but I wouldn't be able to do it all justice. A few short updates before I dive into what a boda boda is and how much fun futbol was: There was a group of us staying at PG's house as I mentioned earlier, and I forgot to mention that about two weeks ago we were moved to the house where the rest of the girls are staying. We are now all together and that is a blessing in itself. I have also been helping cook a bit, which as most of you know is not something I excell in. I've gotten the opportunity to help our cook...

Do’s and Don’ts of Africa

There are many rules/ things I’ve learned while being in Kenya.   Never ask what the meat is Always bring salt to every meal You BETTER like peanut butter and jelly Never eat beans and then squish in a car When given the opportunity ALWAYS use the nice toilets..They are rare Don’t drink a lot of water during the day because you’ll be forced to use the squaty When asked if there is room the answer is ALWAYS yes. There is no point in showering…you will never get clean Always carry a head lamp The power will go out at...

Unexpected Blessings

God is so good! This week has been pretty interesting! In the mornings we have continued to work with the children in the school and help the church with stage construction. Around four o clock we go to a nearby town called Amerikwai for a crusade. Later, we have revival at our church in Busia. At first it was difficult for me because I didn’t feel like I was contributing at all to the ministry because we have guest pastors that do it all. I prayed to the Lord that he would help me to make the most out of the situation and God has blessed me in so many ways! I suddenly could not...
