Maasai Journal Entry 2/7/10

Baby-wipe showers, mud huts, foreign handshakes, community shampoo… Yep. This is Africa.   The Lord took our prayers for an abundance of rain seriously. We’ve been living in the Rift Valley for 5 days now with the Maasai tribe, a beautiful people that hasn’t seen rain since December. Our tents were completely flooded last night, and the whole team was confined into one hut to sleep. Nine of us girls slept head to toe on the floor of a room smaller than my bedroom at home. The rain started again at about 3pm today, and now we are all hanging out under the tin roof with...

Maasai Tribe

I’ve safely arrived in Africa!!! I’m so incredibly blessed to be in Kajabe. I’ve met many wonderful people and seen transformations right before my eyes. I look around and see broken people and yet at the same time people with so much joy. The past six days we went and lived with the Maasai tribe. Never in a million years would I have guessed that we would have the opportunity to minister to them, but we did! It was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I know it is only the beginning of my journey, but I learned so much from these people and got to...

“Beautiful!”

After being in Kenya a little over a week the team has experienced one of the most amazing opportunities. We have blessed enough to live in the Maasai tribe. They are alot like what you read in books; bright colored clothing, lots of jewelry, and very good at jumping. The Maasai tribe are also very committed to their relationship with God. They spend lots of time singing and dancing for the Lord. During our stay in the Rift Valley with the Maasai Tribe, we visited a Primary school. The students were so excited to see us and cheered with all they had when our team walked in to greet them at...

A Diamond in the Rough

After spending two days in Kijabe we packed up tents and headed to the Rift Valley to spend 6 days with the Maasai Tribe. They are such beautiful people and almost all welcomed us (especially our electronics) with open arms. There was a pastor there trying to plant a church among these nomadic people so we spent the majority of the week walking, walking, walking and walking many kilometers from hut to hut sharing the gospel. 4 people found salvation this week and we praise God for it and all the walking was worth it!   My story however begins in a small 9×9 mud hut. Three people...

The Maasai..

We headed out Feb 3rd at about 10am. After stopping at the market and driving though dirt roads and countless pot holes, we finally arrived in the land of the Maasai Tribe. It was hot. It was dry. No running water. No electricity. No showers, and a squatty potty for a toilet. Flies covered everything. Flies covered everyone. I didnt know what to think. I didnt know what to feel. I guess i was in a state of shock. How was i suppose to live here the next 6 days?    Then God opens your eyes and helps  you destroy the the complete selfishness that wants to take over. You begin to...

A Wonderful Welcome

We are on our way to the Maasai Tribe about 2 hours from Kijabe (where we are staying). The journey there is a bunch of dusty roads in the middle of the no where. We will be staying in the bush for 5 days with the Maasai. We finally get there and the valley is about 100 degrees, we unload our dusty things and put all our food for the week in the nearest kitchen hut which is about a 10ft x 5ft mud room. We are careful how we interact with the people because we do not know thier culture. Thier bright red and yellow clothes catch my eye and they are covered head to toe with beads. They are so...
