I gave the devil a bloody nose!!

Ha! I’m guessing most of you are wondering what I am talking about. After getting back from the Maasia Tribe I ended up getting sick along with a few others. It was Wednesday morning I woke up from a sleepless night because my stomach was rolling and my head was pounding. That morning we made our way to the Kajabe Hospital to visit with the sick and injured patients there. My stomach was still turning but I decided to tuff it out and I’ll tell you why in a bit. Jenna Ghizas, Denise Powers, and I decided to go to the women’ ward to see where the patients faith’s were...

Words can’t describe…

The past few weeks our team has been learning how to recognize the voice and presence of the Holy Spirit. This past Tuesday I was put in a situation where I had to put all that I have been learning into action. Our team headed out to visit the Turkana Tribe for a few house visits. We split up into teams and and headed out. I was with Blair, Kelli, and our translator Mary.  As we walked through the dusty roads I continued to ask God that my words would be few and his would be many. The four of us stopped at the first house and were greeted by a woman and her young child. We...

The wilderness..

Wednesdays is our day during the week to head down to the African Inland Church Hospital. After chapel at 8:00am we split up into our groups and head to different wards within the hospital.   I chose to be in the group that visits the pediatrics ward of the hospital. These children suffer from all kinds of illnesses varying all the way from spin bifida, hydrocephalus, and all the way down to malaria, pneumonia, and common colds. Today I met three amazing and super strong women of God. Lucy and her baby girl Naomi have been in the hospital for over a week. Naomi had malaria and...

Esiah’s strength

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” -Proverbs 3:5-8   It’s so hard to choose one thing to write about because SO much has happened since I arrived last Thursday night. Here’s a super-quick recap of the week…. -Thursday night, after a long two days of traveling, I was welcomed by the girls in my group with...

Simple Lives, Big Hearts

I’m a little behind on my blogging due to being sick for several days so I am just now blogging about my experience with the Maasai tribe. One rule of good blogging is to write about other people in your stories. Because my experience out in the bush was so overwhelming I want to write about the ENTIRE Maasai tribe.   I knew going into this journey a lot of strength would be required out of me since my team was going to be “rouging” it for five days. I’ve found that “roughing” it to Americans means sleeping in tents on hard ground, not showering for...

John

This Tuesday we were able to visit a tribe in the Rift Valley called the Turkana. I’d like to briefly share one of my experiences from our house visits.   The second house we came to was surrounded by cattle. Two men were standing on the roof working and no one was inside the house. Our translator, Pastor James, approached the house and the men came down the wooden ladder and introduced themselves. We shook theire hands and I immediately knew this was going to be a challenge. One of the men, named John, spoke English well and was intelligent. He wasn’t defensive or rude to...
