“Dog Sliding His Butt Across The Carpet” Dance Moves

From Tuesday to Sunday my team and our contact facilitated a crusade in Mhamarani. For all of you that don’t know, a crusade is simply open air preaching. You choose a spot in a city, set up, and basically hold a church service right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of the area. However, this crusade was very different from the others in past weeks because it was clustered with drunk men. What a sight to see, full grown men interpretive dancing to the praise and worship songs being sung. Seriously, I think it could have made a 60 year old woman who has denounced dancing...

A Day in the Life

Yeah so I guess I haven’t blogged…..in a LONG time. So sorry about that! I’m getting very comfortable here in Mpeketoni and I know im going to cry when I leave this place and these people. I just love them SO MUCH!!! I guess I’ll just talk about my life here. Monday is our rest day so we either just stay home and chill or we go to the beach. Bishop said he’s going to take us to Lamu which is an island in Kenya and hes going to drive us around to see animals one of these Mondays which is exciting. The Bat and Me

So, Here In Kenya we are living in an incredible house- so much different from what I had expected.  Running water, rooms to sleep in, a nice living room, but at night the bugs and such do come out.  So the other night one of the girls and I were out late talking outside and we finally come in around 1am.  So I am getting ready for bed- getting my mosquito net around me and getting it all situated when I hear a weird noise.  I look up and there is a bat in our room and it is going crazy.  This bat is hitting walls and doors and then it finally flies out of our...

Expect the Unexpected

In the picture above is Brom and I, I meet him here in Kenya. He has been working so hard in order to get enough money to get a better education (he wants to be a pilot) he is still short about 1,000 dollars so please be praying for him. I like to believe that we are broken, bruised, or scared in order to help us reach a remarkable strand of growth we ordinarily wouldn’t. I have been in Kenya now for 6 days, that’s 144 hours of being away from my home, 8640 minutes of being stretched from my comfort zone, and 518400 seconds of unconditional growth. I like to think of my...

Unexpected love

I have been struggling to write this blog for the past week, and honestly, I've been putting it off. These past 8 days have been bitter-sweet in a sense. I am learning to hear from God in new ways, unexpected ways. I am being broken, stretched, and molded more into who He created me to be. It has been rough and at times I have wanted to give up and go home. I can't say that thought has completely left my mind yet. But all it takes is one look from a child. One look from a little girl in her pink and green school uniform, one look from the most helpless ones here, the babies, one...

This Is Africa

Originally, I had planned to write this blog about how much I have grown and changed as a result of a teammate being sick, and while it was amazing how much my prayer life, and my spiritual life in general has drastically changed and strengthened, I feel the need to vent about something else. This morning we visited a hospital in Mpeketoni and let me just say that I could not believe that I was standing in a hospital…there was no air conditioning or fans, no medical equipment that I could see, no nurses or doctors, and the smell of human feces and the stench of death and disease...
