After traveling for 3 days going from plane to plane we arrived in Nairobi late at night and stayed in a hostel. Way nicer than anything I expected. The next day we got to spend the day out on the town. Many of us being excited to finally be in Kenya wanted to start collecting souvenirs for family and friends and so we went shopping. We were welcomed into many shops and heard the promise of a good price. Oh the lies! So this is how they do it in Africa. They don’t have price tags on anything so they just let you shop and pick out everything you want, even carrying it for you until you are done. When you finally go to check out they pull out a paper and pen and write down prices until you unknowingly agree to a ridiculous price (Just a hint, it is wise to know the currency exchange rate). Well this is how it all went down for me and my team on our first day in Nairobi. Although we got completely ripped off, I would not want to be anywhere but here. The people are all very friendly and love our presence. I have even been adopted as an official Kenyan by changing my name to RoseMary (Ari was too hard to pronounce I guess).
The town we are actually staying in is 13 hours from Nairobi called Mpeketoni. We live in the Bishops house and will start our ministry work on Tuesday. The Bishop expects us to be very proficient in preaching by the end of our stay so I will be getting a lot of practice.
Till next time
Baadaye – See you later!
