So even though I'm on a plane on my way home I'm gonna try to do a quick fill-in of my past 2 weeks.
Last week we went to Challenge Farm in Kitale. The easiest way to explain it is like a boarding school for street kids, buts it's a home. Mama Cheri started it in 1992 and now they have over 130 kids. I made great friends with 3 girls named Maggy, Diana, and Alice. Everyday they wrote me notes about how much they loved me and that I was like a mother to them. Needless to say, when we left, it broke my heart when they started crying as I told them goodbye.
Saturday evening we got home from Kitale and we needed one more person to preach in the morning. Every time it was our teams turn to preach, I would ask God if I was supposed to and every time the answer was not yet. However this time, I was pretty positive it was my turn. I kept trying to tell God no, but who am I kidding; if He wants me to preach, I was gonna be preaching whether I liked it or not. I had 11 hours until I would be in front of people and I had NO idea what to preach on. After praying about it, I really just wanted to have some worship time so I grabbed my iPod and put on the Jesus music. I wrote down every idea that came to mind but then God specifically told me to speak on His Son. I thought I would be preaching to the choir so I looked for something different, but God just wanted me to go through the Gospel. Awesome Jesus time where it hit me just how much I love God, and 4/5 hours later I had a sermon wrote out. I thought God had done all the big stuff with me he wanted when he trips me up and I have to seriously rely on him to preach. I think it went good though. Even if just one person there needed to hear it, that's more than enough.
Monday was spent packing and saying our goodbyes to Busia and bright and early Tuesday morning we were headed to Nakuru. Nakuru was incredible! Not counting ministry, I'm pretty sure I had the most fun here. I made friends with sweet old ladies at the Masai market who helped me get good deals and when I went back 2 days latthe they helped me bargain. Those ladies were awesome! I went hiking in the Great Rift Valley! Not just seeing it,but hiking from the top to the bottom and back up. Getting to it was super sketch though. The 6 of us who went were just hoping they were actually taking us to the GRV. But hey, what's a little Africa without some adventure? And Me and the girls I went with aren't exactly the most coordinated so it made for quite an interesting experience. I have never seen anything as beautiful as Africa. I thought the hiking trip would have been the best, but our safari the next day definitely gave it a run for its money. The scenery here was just as beautiful, but different. But we got to see water buffalo, gazelle, impala, giraffes, wart hogs, zebras, rhinos, hippos, babboons, monkeys, a lion, and more. I was hoping for elephants, but there were none. It was so awesome though! Also some of my team members got tattoos while I was hiking, but was there enough time for me? We'll find out soon won't we.
On the way to the airport (yesterday?) we saw all kinds of animals on the side of the road and off in the distance. Wild zebras literally 2 feet from the road and it's no big deal. Only in Africa.
Now I'm on my 3rd plane towards home flying over Canada and we're about 3 hours away from touching down in Atlanta. God's definitely been working on my heart this past week just telling me that it is time to go home. I'll miss Africa so bad, but I have no doubts that I'll be back. Tomorrow is gonna be really rough though saying bye to the 21 people who have become my family. I just have to believe that this isn't goodbye. I know God's gonna keep us together somehow.
Please pray for us to keep following after God when we get home and not to let life get in the way. See yall soon!
