The Neighbor

The house we are staying in here in Busia is surrounded by other homes to keep us company. We have a gate of course but knowing we have neighbors is somewhat comforting. Our yard is connected with the home right behind us and it has proved to be no coincidence. Little kittens make there way over from that neighbors yard and into our kitchen……that ’s how I meet Guka.

Guka is a boy that lives at out neighbors house, his rent is the work he does daily around the house. When I wake up his work is already started  and as I close my eyes his work is not yet finished. I began making Guka breakfast and lunch along with some juice, over time it has become our routine. Guka knows very little English, therefore we have never actually had a conversation. In fact finding out his name took me about two weeks.

Its funny how the Lord works……Guka and I are a different race, don’t understand each other’s language,  have an unthinkable lifestyle difference, and yet somehow we have created this bond through seeing each other smile. Seeing Guka has become my favorite part of the day and as odd as it sounds he has impacted me more than anyone. God sent me here to feed our neighbor’s worker boy food, only to receive something much greater than just that, something He knew only Guka could bring me.
