Something Beautiful

Hello friends!

I don’t know if you knew this but…. I’m in Kenya. I’m sorry its taken such a long time for me to update. As you have read from some of the other blogs TIA is an abbreviation we live by here. Yes, This Is Africa. Internet is hard to come by and so are showers. But, I am having such an amazing time and wouldn’t change a thing!

As soon as we got to Kijabe we were informed that we would be spending the next two weeks visiting the Massai and Turkana tribes. We would have one day to rest and then it was off into the African bush to live with each of these people groups for a week. And that’s exactly what we did!

First, we visited the Massai tribe in Tangi Tatu.  That is when I actually realized that I was in Africa. We didn’t have electricity, running water, beds, we had to bring toilet paper for the “squatty potty” that kinda far away, and we had to have night guards to protect us from the hyenas. Sweet. I wasn’t sure how the week was going to turn out, but I was excited to go on this adventure! We spent the majority of that time doing hut to hut visits and simply talking and getting to know the people. They were incredible. We asked many of them what we couild pray for and they all had the same answer – rain. We prayed for rain and guess what? It rained every single day we were there! Praise the Lord. He is faithful! I saw such joy and hope in those previous faces I was so blessed to come into contact with! Their passionate singing and unhindered worship brought tears to my eyes every single night. The pastor, Josphat, really loves the people there and goes to great lengths to visit them in their homes. They were simply amazing people, and I will never forget them. I will also never forget how cool it was to see zebras, giraffes, gazelles, warthogs, and baboons just chillin on the side of the road. Really? That’s so cool!

After that, it was off to the Rift Valley to spend a little time with the Turkana tribe. As soon as we got to the church we would be pitching our tents in, we noticed things were much different than the week before. There was such a sense of sadness and depression. Everything was dry and dead. We spent the first day there simply praying over the people and for God to open every possible door. Then the next day, it was time to go out. The first few houses were fine… we talked… they were saved. But, the third house we went to was drastically different. There we met a lady named Margaret and her baby. I have never seen eyes so sad before… ever. She shared that she had been saved at one time, but had back slid. We shared the gospel with her and the simple truth that whatever she did could not seperate her from God’s love. She was already forgiven and a precious daughter in God’s eyes. As we shared this, she started to cry and that is something that African women don’t do. They’re not allowed to cry. She was so moved that she got her husband up and we were also able to share Christ’s unfailing love and forgiveness with him as well. That day they both decided to accept Christ as their savior and also committed to becoming members of the church! You could immediately see a change in their eyes. Where there was once hopelessness, fear, and sadness there was now an everlasting joy that only Jesus can give!

Nothing can seperate us from the love of Christ. Nothing. That is something that I’ve been told many many times, but have actually just realized. He. Loves. Me. This overly simple truth has changed my life in ways I can’t describe and I want so badly to share it with others! God is working in my life, changing my heart, and molding me into the precious and priceless daughter He has always seen me as. And that is something beautiful.

Love and miss you all!

Anna
