Luke 10:19: “For I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you”
Our group has been visiting the Turkana tribe on Tuesdays. We hop in a crazy old Matatu (van), ride about two hours on the left side of the road, experience many bumps and bruises, and arrive basically in the middle of nowhere in the valley. Their land is beautiful, surrounded by mountains and beautiful vegetation and trees. The people are beautiful as well, especially a young woman named Monica who purposes this blog 🙂
The following is a beautiful story of God’s grace and redemption, his peace and restoration, his pursuit and joy. He delights in capturing or recapturing the focus of his children. A group of three of us met Monica last week during out visits. Upon entering her house, we all felt a sense of darkness, a heaviness. We could tell immediately that there was some sort of spiritual warfare going on. I can’t really think of a time when I have experienced this in such a drastic way, but the Lord knew what he was doing in sending us there.
Monica and her baby, Purity, were sitting on the couch as we talked. She didn’t look at us once the entire conversation, turned her head to the side, and looked downcast. She told us about her life as we asked her questions, that she was a believer, but that people in the community were jealous of her family. She also told of a witch doctor who lived nearby, who she felt had caused her household harm. She said that she had rodents, snakes, and frogs in her house and that she had trouble sleeping at night because of fear. This alarmed us. We asked if these animals were common in the area. She replied that they were not. She explained that another Real Life team had come to visit, and some of the problem had ceased. However, so much darkness and hopelessness still remained. She went on to say that her husband’s family had a history of alcoholism, which Holli asked her about without even knowing the family history.
As we each talked with her, we listened for the Holy Spirit’s words and guidance of how to speak truth and hope into Monica’s life. We shared scripture with her and words that we heard. We prayed against the darkness and any hold Satan had on her house. When we left, she seemed more hopeful and empowered.
Yesterday, Holli and two others from our group returned to her house. We had driven to a different location. However, we all felt the Lord telling us to go find her again, so we walked the however many kilometers to her house to speak with her. Oh, what glorious things occur when you listen to the Holy Spirit!!!
Monica was in her yard working and invited us into her house. We could tell immediately that her countenance had improved. She told us that all of the rodents and animals disappeared after we left the first time, that she had been sleeping, and that the darkness we had felt had gone! We all spoke more truth into her life, and by the end she was smiling and looking us in the eye! We prayed together at the end, and she was literally standing up, fist in the air, shouting the Name of Jesus Christ! We all stood hand in hand, and shouted Jesus over and over, claiming victory over her house and her life. What powerful redemption 🙂
Please continue to pray for healing as most of us recover from sickness, for boldness, and for the Holy Spirit to continue to lead us in all that we do. We’re here for God’s glory alone 🙂 thanks!!!
