Night in Atlanta

Eventually we all choose between what’s right and what’s easy. This is so true and are now the words that my team members wear on their shirts. The easiest thing to do is nothing, but we are ALL called to follow the Great Commission. Matthew 28:16-20 “Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authroity in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of  the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching in them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” The first few days of training camp were eye-opening and I have yet to even step foot into Kenya! We all arrived at the airport and met our teams and then were split up into groups given an envelope that gave us instructions to meet at this place called the Safehouse in downtown Atlanta with only $20 to help get us there. It felt as though we were on the show “The Amazing Race”. Good thing my team had Denise (my teammate who is from GA) to help us navigate our way around. We hpped onto what Denise claims to be the “sketchy” Marta. Then we walked several blocks and finally arrived at the Safehouse. Safehouse is a place where the homeless can be fed, have shelter, and attend church services 7 days a week. We ended up staying the night there, but we didn’t get in until about 3 am because we were given another envelope when we first arrived there that told us we were to go and spend a night on the streets with the homeless. We hit the streets of Atlanta and got to go pray over the homeless, worship with them, and listen to what they had to say. My perspective of the homeless was completely altered. I realized that my thoughts about homeless people being the most in need of direction in their biblical knowledge was somewhat false. They did have faith! One of the most memorable moments of the nightwas when a man named Leon stared singing “The Heart of Worship”. I was moved. It was a great kick off to what lies ahead. Training camp was an incredible experience and God really grew my heart, trust, and faith in Him!
