This week we have gotten to make the most out of having a large team. We had an ATL (Ask the Lord) week where we each prayed to God everyday about what he wanted for us that day. Then according to what each of us saw we divided into teams and went out! The first day I went with two other girls and we talked to a group of Muslims about the Bible and the Quran. We talked about our differences for over an hour! It went pretty well and we’re hoping to develop more of a relationship with them in the future to show them the love of Jesus. I realized I’ve never actually talked to Muslims like that before and maybe that’s something I can continue even when I get home!
There is always someone from our team at Mama’s orphanage every day. The children are absolutely precious! We’ve been teaching them in the classroom, playing soccer, singing, cuddling, and helping them with their chores. They are different than most of the children here because they don’t obsess over us for being white. I find that very refreshing. It’s wonderful to just share love with each other 🙂 I feel so much happier each time I visit them.
Some of us have been going on prayer walks and just praying over the city. One day a group and I went shop to shop just to see how we could pray for people and if they know the Lord. One of these stores was a place called Survivors Safe Place. We thought the name was interesting and went in to find out more about what they do. It’s an organization that teaches prostitutes (or what they call sex workers) the dangers of sex and how to be safe and about symptoms of STDs. It’s not a Christian organization but they invited us to come to one of their meetings and said we could tell them about Jesus and pray for the girls if they want us to! I’m super excited about this! It’s amazing that God led us there!
The street kid ministry is one of my favorites! On Thursday we had a bonus day with them where some of us made them Mandazis (Its like an African breakfast bread) and tea! Every time we see them we teach them lessons about the Bible and sing and pray with them. Then we fill them up with food 🙂 On Saturdays we play soccer. I really enjoy those kids. They are surprisingly very respectful. I wish I could do something to get them off the street but it seems like many of them have run away from home and its difficult for them to return after being on their own so long.
I’ve been reading the book Kisses from Katie and I just want to end with this quote that I found encouraging.
“I will not change the world. Jesus will do that. I can, however, change the world for one person…. And if one person sees the love of Christ in me, it is worth every minute. In fact, it is worth spending my life for.”
