More Then What Meets The Eye

As I was thinking about what I was going to write this blog about these two beautiful faces popped into my head. The faces were of two 5 year old boys, twins, Kaio and Manane. They live in a town that is about 10 min. away from where we are staying. We spent 4 afternoons there preaching, singing, and showing Christ's love to the people in that little town. It was actually on the 2nd day that I saw them. They were absolutely adorable and they had this contagious laugh. I swept Kaio up into my arms and thats when he latched on to me like somehow I was going to let him go. But as he latched on to me… he also latched onto my heart. I never put him down for the rest of the afternoon. And I found myself running, aching, to hold them during the last two afternoons we were there. I fell in love.

There is more to the story though. You see Kaio and Manane were sick. I don't know what exactly was wrong but they had a cough, their breathing was heavy, and they were more tired then any 5 year old kid should be… even if they are sick. And as I looked into their eyes I could tell that something was very wrong. There was a whole lot more that was happening then what meets the eye. I just had this feeling that if I heard Kaio's and Manane's story I would break down in tears. I still don't know their story but I will forever remember them. I will remember their adorable little smiles and laughs. I will remember the way they needed someone just to love them. I will remember the way that they would always fall asleep in my arms the moment I picked them up. I will always remember the way they walked into my heart as if it was their home. No kid should be that vulnerable.

They are the reason why I made the choice to come to Africa in the first place. They are the reason why doing nothing is not an option anymore.
