Jesus Saves

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”  Luke 19:10

A day or two after we arrived in Kijabe, we were told that we would be going on an outreach to the “bush” to the Maasai tribe in the Rift Valley. We were so excited because we imagined going later on this trip. After a two and a half hour bumpy journey, we arrived in two vans with all our supplies to the Maasai village in the middle of the beautiful Rift Valley.

The beauty and welcoming nature of the Maasai tribe amazed me. These people gave unassumingly to complete strangers, people of a culture and way of life entirely foreign to them. This welcoming nature extended throughout the entire village with whomever we met, including the people we met during our daily house visits. Women and men alike invited us to sit with them inside or outside their homes, sacrificing some of their time to speak with our groups that had divided into four or five people. Many women even offered to cook for us or bring us chai, tea leaves boiled with sugar, milk, and water that is a very important drink in Kenyan culture as a whole. Yum 🙂

On day 2 of our visits, four of us and our Maasai translator, Dancen, journeyed a few kilometers up a hill to visit a woman named Jen. She came outside her small hut with a baby wrapped to her back. We could tell that she was quiet, but still she welcomed us to speak with her.

We learned that she wasn’t a believer but she allowed us to share Christ’s love with her. She retrieved her Maasai bible and we read passages with her,  sharing the gospel with her. She listened intently, and we could tell that the Holy Spirit was working in her. I’m sure the gospel wasn’t something she heard everyday. However, after we were done sharing, she said that she wanted to receive Christ! She prayed a prayer of surrender and repentance, and tears glistened down her cheeks.

She came to church on Sunday, and we got to talk with her again. She went up front to declare that she had received Christ with a few other women as well. Her boldness and faith amazed and encouraged me. The Lord has really blessed our group this week, allowing us to see people come to him.

Please continue to pray for our group as we begin our lives in Kijabe. Pray for boldness and energy as we share Christ daily with the people there. 🙂

In Christ,
Kelli 🙂
