There is a lyric from a song that you might know…”What if God was one of us?” I already know the answer to that question because it is really not a question at all. God was one of us, in the form of Jesus, God came down from heaven and spent time here on Earth as a human. This past week, we celebrated the day of Jesus crucifixion (Good Friday) and the day of His resurrection (Easter)…we don’t need to question whether God was one of us because He was…history attests to the fact that there was really a person named Jesus who lived in Judea in the first century AD…the Bible, a book that continues to be proven historically accurate, attests to His life, His death , and His resurrection.
The Maker of the Universe became a human…one moment, Jesus was standing in Heaven, looking out at its beauty, and the next He was opening His eyes up as a baby…have you ever thought that at one time Jesus couldn’t feed himself, couldn’t walk, couldn’t talk, had to be taken care of by the very people be helped create? For the majority of His life He worked as a carpenter, making furniture for people, working with His hands, trying to make a living for Himself…Jesus understands what it means to be a human, what it means to struggle with a job, with a family, with finances; He’s experienced life here on Earth.
He loved us enough to come down from Heaven and live here on Earth, but not only to live here on Earth but also to die here on Earth. Jesus not only had to deal with the pain of dying on the cross (slowly suffocating as He broke His own bones just so He could breathe) but He also had to bear the sin of the world on His shoulders…something that I have been thinking about and something that I fully believe with all of my heart, is that as Jesus was dying on the cross, He mentally pictured all the people that He was dying for; He pictured me, you, and everyone else that He was dying for.
What is amazing about this story is that it doesn’t end with Jesus’ death on the cross…three days later, He rose from the dead! He sits at God’s right hand in the seat of honor, waiting for people to call out His name, waiting for people to look to Him for peace, for comfort, waiting for people to ask Him to be there Lord and Savior…and He did all of this for love! From the beginning of time, God has known each and every one of us…He knows more about us then we even know about ourselves…He has been waiting for us, calling out to us, wanting to be with us…GOD loves us so much!!! He sent His Son to die for us!!! Never question this; God loves You right now, right where you are at!!! Jesus died for us, He rose for us!!! He wants us!!!
Do you want Him? Do you want His love? Do you want the life that only He can give?
