“Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.”
-Proverbs 3:5-8
It’s so hard to choose one thing to write about because SO much has happened since I arrived last Thursday night. Here’s a super-quick recap of the week….
-Thursday night, after a long two days of traveling, I was welcomed by the girls in my group with banners and notes!
-Friday we went house to house in the community of Kijabe and talked to people and prayed with them.
-Saturday we traveled down to the valley to the Displaced camp and spent time with people there.
-Sunday we went to the AIC church here in Kijabe, and then we rested.
-Monday we help teach in the local schools here in Kijabe.
-Tuesday we traveled to the turkana tribe and went house to house and talked to the people and prayed for them.
And that brings me to today (Wednesday). Today we went to the AIC Hospital here in Kijabe. We split up into groups and went to different wings of the hospital. Mandy, Logan, Patrice, and I went to the pediatric wing. It was so encouraging talking to the mothers of these sick children and seeing how much strength and joy they have. There was one six month old baby named Esiah who broke my heart. He was in the hospital with his mother, Faith, to get an operation on his back. I got to sit down with Faith and talk to her about her situation. She has a husband and one other child back home and they go to church, which was super encouraging. We prayed for her family and for Esiah and you could just tell how much joy and appreciation was in her heart, even in such a difficult situation! While I prayed, Esiah’s tiny hand was wrapped around my finger and couldn’t help but to choke up. I could just feel the strength inside this six month old baby. And seeing his sweet smile was just the cherry on the sundae- I was broken-hearted.
Esiah had his back surgery last week, and is in the hospital for recovery, hoping to be allowed home this week. If you guys could add him and Faith and their family to your prayers, that would be greatly appreciated!!
Sorry for the short ending, but I’m running out of time in the computer lab! 🙁
Also a side note, a few of the team members have continued to get sick, and Liz inparticular is feeling awful today. She went to the clinic at the hospital a few hours ago, and we’re waiting to hear from her. So, pray for health for our whole group and especially Liz right now!
