We are in a WAR
One thing I knew coming into this trip, was that it was going to be a battle to bring the Gospel to these people. I was right.
Since arriving, we have quickly realized the spiritual battle going on in Mpeketoni, Kenya. Right off the bat I was thrown into the pulpit to preach the first sermon to the church. Spoke on Job and perseverance through struggle and how God has a sovereign plan behind it all. Two days after that, we went into the local hospital and prayed over the sick and hurt. A lot of spiritual warfare in that place. Then time for the door-to-door visits. This is where I knew I would run into most of the battle between God and Satan. The very first house we came to, we met a girl named Kadzo. After hearing the presentation of the Gospel, she was ready to be born-again. That was awesome leading her in that prayer!
Then came Lukas. Lukas told me he heard spirits in the night that talked to him and told him different things. They didn't let him sleep. They wouldn't let him come to church, they would make him busy. Well, after some one-on-one time with Lukas and some things done, he was now free from that bondage. Awesome! However, other than those two everyone we met is “already” a Christian. They don't want to talk.
The one thing our Father continues to teach me is that it takes someone willing to get in the fight and persevere suffering and hard times to minister here. Something I need to understand to be a missionary in this area in the future. It is a tough area, and it brings you out of American comfort very quick. However, Jesus suffered. His apostles suffered to spread the Word. So we must too. And rejoice in it! Gotta love the fight! NEVER stop preaching the saving grace of Jesus Christ!
“ The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is Christ.” Acts 5:41-42
