My First Adventure

My first couple days of training camp have been full of many new experiences. From rolling my two suitcases down the streets of Atlanta, to being spit in the face by the “natives” we were attempting to evangelize to, its been real fun to say the least.  One of our first true tasks at training camp though was to go out and evangelize to people on the streets. It was really the first challenge we had to start stepping out of our boxes and doing things most of our group had never done before.  We were split up into small groups and eventually given a dollar that we...

Stealing joy.

To say that I have gone on an adventure would be an understatement. From the moment I arrived God has shown up in all sorts of ways. To make a long story short: Marta. Heavy luggage. Safe house of Atlanta. Ministering until 2:15 in the morning. God showed up! On our second night I wasn’t whole heartedly worshipping like I normally do. I had taken some time to pray but wasn’t getting anywhere until one of the staff, Michelle came and started praying and singing over me. She then told me that something was affecting my worship and I had no idea what. Seeking further I found that...

Breathing FREEDOM.

All sorts of walls we thought we couldn’t move came crashing down.  A lot of intense things have been happening here at AIM Training Camp.  It is so sweet to see how God is breaking each of us.  I never even thought how many things were holding me back until God unleashed me and made me realize I was free! Free from pain. Free from shame. Free from every single thing that was keeping me back. I think every single participant here has gone through the same feelings this week.   One major story that really shook me was during a worship session.(Ps....

They’re Waiting for Us

Hello from Georgia everyone!      I’m so excited to write my first blog! So the first night we stayed in Atlanta and I definitely got more than I expected.     First regret: packing a bag that is bigger than I am and finding out soon after arriving that I will actually be carrying it through the streets of hot and humid Atlanta. (I guess you were right about the packing too much thing Mom)     After walking we arrived at a place called the Safehouse and were then told we would be going out into the streets of Atlanta that night to...

Hello from Nebraska!

Hello all! My name is Sam Thomsen and I am from the state of Nebraska.  In case you do not know your geography, Nebraska is right in the middle of the United States.  The state is known for Husker football, corn, and the land being extremely flat.  If you have never visited I recommend you make a journey.  It will blow your mind! (Okay, I may be exaggerating…haha!)  Anyways…a little about myself.  I am 22 years old and graduated this last May from Nebraska Wesleyan University. (Which is a small university in the capital, Lincoln.)  I...

What I have learned from my past two trips…

Ok, so I am not the best at keeping up with this blog and for that I apologize to all of you. I am (and I know Hannah is as well) to meet all of you and serve along side of you in Kenya. I know its going to be absolutely amazing!  This is my third trip with Real Life and ironically, it is the third trip I have lead this year. I say this because I have learned a few things that you may want to get or take note on before you head down in five days. **Last Minute items** —Electrolyte drinks packets. You know like Crystal Lite, Gaterade, or Hawaiian Punch. These are great for...
