So I didn't plan on writing about this but here goes nothin'.  I had a really interesting conversation the other day with Pastor Charles. He was talking about the differences between the way that westerners view God and the way that Africans do. In America, the general population seems to really resonate with God's love. The first thing an American will tell someone when talking about Christ is how much He loves them and what He did for them. That is not the same with Africans. Don't get me wrong, they love their Father's love, it's just not what they so...

Boda bodas and futbol

There is so much I wish I had the time to tell you about in my blogs, but I wouldn't be able to do it all justice. A few short updates before I dive into what a boda boda is and how much fun futbol was: There was a group of us staying at PG's house as I mentioned earlier, and I forgot to mention that about two weeks ago we were moved to the house where the rest of the girls are staying. We are now all together and that is a blessing in itself. I have also been helping cook a bit, which as most of you know is not something I excell in. I've gotten the opportunity to help our cook...

What If…

What if you have to drop out of college because your parents tell you they simply cannot afford it anymore? What if you don't get what you expected out of a husband or wife? Or what if God tells you that you will not get married? What if God only gives you enough to survive on for your entire life? Will you still be obedient to God? Habakkuk tells us a dialog between God and his people as they cry out to Him about the injustive they see in the world. "How long, O Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, "Violence!" but you do not save?"...

Bugs in the Peanut Butter

Now you may be wonering why I named this blog Bugs in the Peanut Butter. Was it because there were actually bugs in the peanut butter? Nope none at all. The real reason is because of a lesson that God showed me, and because I wanted a catchy title. Peanut butter right now is something that reminds me of home because it is something that we eat here a lot and it is something I also eat in America; therefore, peanut butter is comfort right now. When there is a bug in my peanut butter it isn't so comforting anymore. God is kinda the same way. When we are...

Here They Call Me Bryan

I am learning so much here in Africa. First I learned that the people cannot say Brad so my name here is now Bryan. I also learned that we wait and then we wait, and then we wait some more. Patience is a virtue I am learning. I learned that when in Rome do as the Romans do, but when in Africa, you make it work. That is my new motto. God is teaching me so much about who he is.      First he is teaching me how to listen to his voice and it definitely gets louder everyday. I really learned this through my time with a lady named Beatrice during one...

Mzungu’s in Kenya

Hey everyone!   I've been in Busia about 2 weeks. I can't even put into words this place. But it's incredible! We wake up every morning at 5:30am to go to the church and pray as a team and with other church members. We wear headlamps because its still dark! Little children run out of their huts yelling 'Mzungu!' (foriegner). They are precious. We walk to church – trying not to get run over by bikes and buses, but I cant tell you how many times I've almost been hit ha. Soon after prayer the children from the school next to the church come out to...
