Love My Children

Sorry it has taken me so long to post! The internet here has been difficult. These past few weeks have been busy! My favorite part has been spending time at ‘Mama Orphans Children’s Home’ which is only about a three minute walk from the church we are partnered with. Vincent and Bahati, two (about) eight year old boys, have found a special place in my heart. I look forward to seeing them every day don’t know what I’m going to do when I have to leave! Unfortunately, I have to be married to adopt boys in Kenya. Other than food, the biggest struggles for children...

My life in Kenya

This week we have gotten to make the most out of having a large team. We had an ATL (Ask the Lord) week where we each prayed to God everyday about what he wanted for us that day. Then according to what each of us saw we divided into teams and went out! The first day I went with two other girls and we talked to a group of Muslims about the Bible and the Quran. We talked about our differences for over an hour! It went pretty well and we’re hoping to develop more of a relationship with them in the future to show them the love of Jesus. I realized I’ve never actually talked to...

Scraped Knees and Patched Up Hearts

So this week has been interesting. It’s been one of the worst and one of the best on this trip so far. Last Monday was a good day, but Monday night was really hard. I felt so spiritually empty and dry. I guess I had just been putting it off so I wouldn’t think about it, but in our small groups we all voiced that we all felt the same and there was no more denying it to myself. I got really frustrated and upset about it so I grabbed my iPod and went and sat on the steps outside and kinda had it out with Jesus. I told him how exactly how I felt and as always, he...

The things you learn…

These are some of the things I have learned while being in Kenya about African LIfe. Cars and bikes before pedestrians on the street and sidewalks Clothes are never clean, even after washed Chipote and Mandazis are my favorite foods here 2 hours late is the norm Waking up at 7:30 is considered sleeping in for me Fruit is much sweeter here I have an average of a 3 hour service of church and there are 2 services Bota Bota races are more common between the drivers than the people riding them I haven't used a toilet in a month—just a squatty Children...

Mama Orphan

6/26/12 Today was our first day of ask the Lord ministry. Yesterday when me and Kim were at the internet cafe we ran into a guy Ken who works at Mama’s Orphanage and spoke to him. So I got his card to contact him since I knew we had the week to go and do what ministry we felt called to. So I thought that was a sign from God that I should go to the orphanage. After morning glory we took time individually to pray and ask God what ministry we should do today, where we should go, who we should talk to. When I was praying I kept getting eyes, eyeballs, blind. I didn’t know what...

Mopping with George!

This week was by far my favorite week so far! It’s been packed with playing with street kids, going to the orphanage and hospital, cooking, cleaning, etc. And it’s been so great. If you know me at all, I’m most definitely not a morning person…especially 5:30 in the morning. But I’ve started loving mornings here. The walk to church in the dark, the beautiful African sunrise, and the precious time with Jesus… The joy of the Lord strengthens me and I soak up the time spent praying and seeking the Lord. I know I will need those moments throughout the day to...
