Through My Papa’s Eyes

My Papa is a 76-year-old servant. An immigrant from Germany who has spent his life serving God in the most simple of ways, but his simplicity has added many to the Kingdom.  I have learned from my Papa that I can serve God just by giving someone a hamburger or a ride to a store. My Papa has a special place in my heart and that place has been the key to open a special door in my heart: the elderly. Any time I see an elderly person, I just see my Papa. I see his little stature, his gray beard, the little shuffle he has when he walks, his smile, the crinkle in his eyes when he giggles,...

We are one in the Lord!

Oh what fun we had!  We spent two weeks in the bush of Kenya.  At first our team was a little uncertain of what was happening and why we were in the middle of no where sleeping in tents and using a squatty.  However as we pulled away on Monday, we found ourselves already missing our new friends.    It is so amazing how God works.  As we traveled from hut-to-hut each day sharing the gospel and praying with people, we got to see God at work.  We asked, and God answered.  We asked for rain.  It rained!  We asked for healing....

God Speaks

The first time I heard someone tell me that God spoke to them I truly thought it was a joke. How could God speak to us? I have never witnessed God speaking through my life.UNTIL, I was reminded in a session at training camp called,“God speaking,” that he speaks to us all the time, we just need to listen!   After the session, someone came up to me to tell me “God is speaking in your life, just listen.” That was the last day of training camp. Monday night we all gathered together to worship the God we serve. As I began to cry out to the Lord, Ruthann came to me...

Kenya squeeze me!

We have arrived in Kenya!  We have been living in Kijabe with Pastor Simon and his wife Margret. Today we leave and are heading out to the bush. Our team will be living with the Massaai tribe! I am so excited to spend time with them! We will be doing youth and young child outreach along with door to door ministry. Another tribe I know we will be staying with is the Pokot. In church sunday, we learned that the Pokot tribe is "in salved by the culture". They do not know Swahili and they do not go to school. The Pokot tribe is  "trapped in their culture". Pastor...

Ready to Go

Since we have arrived here in Kenya, we have had the opportunity to spend a couple days to rest and catch up on missed sleep.  It has given me the opportunity to spend some time in the word and to talk to the other missionaries here in Kijabe.  It has been a great couple of days for me to reflect on my life and why I am here.             These verses really stuck out to me and made me realize that I need to be better prepared for the questions I get asked.  "Walk in wisdom toward...

French Fries and 1 Corinthians

1 Corinthians 10:23 “Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial.”   This verse has kept me awake for hours, just pondering the things in my life that are permissible but not beneficial. Jessica is a woman who went on a trip with AIM a few years ago and has come to Kijabe for a month to work in the hospital. The other night she told me this verse and my head has been trying to wrap itself around this verse since then.   Think about it. So many things in our life we can say are permissible, or allowed, but are they really beneficial? Do they help us to...
