G42… What?

For those of you who don’t know, in the summer I serve at a church camp called Falls Creek. This last summer the theme verse was Jeremiah 33:3 which says “Call to me & I will answer. I will tell you great & unsearchable things that you do not know.” I took this verse with me to Kenya & did just that. At the beginning of the trip I asked God to just show me what he wanted me to do with my life. I’ve learned a lot about God’s character after praying that. You see, when you are following Christ and trusting him , his will becomes your will. Love God...

God is GOOD!

God is good!  God is faithful!  God answers prayers!  God opens doors!     I came to Kenya having no idea what I was going to do afterwards, but now I know.  I told God that I wanted to go where ever He wanted me.  I told Him that I was not going to worry about or really even think about what was to come next.  I had prayed about it, and I was trusting that God would answer that prayer.  I was waiting for an answer before I made a move.  It didn't take God long to answer my prayer.    I had thought...

The new normal

I feel like I cannot process anything that has happened in Africa. I think it will be harder to come home then it was to come here.   It feels normal to me even when everyone is staring at me because I look different.  It's normal  to hear different languages and to not understand.  On Sundays, it's normal to  sit through a 4 hour church service. It's normal to sleep in a sleeping bag and to not be able to drink water from the sink or in the shower.Seeing lots of bugs is normal and so is wearing the  same clothes over and over.It's...

The Art of Isolation

At our training camp, we learned that going on this trip meant we would lose our right to many things. Personal space and personal time being just one of those “lost rights”. I’m an extrovert, but still need time to just be alone. Being the creative mind I am, I’ve learned how to create that alone time when necessary. In fact, as I type I am looking at the seven other people on my team, but can’t hear one word they are saying, thanks to my wonderful headphones. For all I know, they could be laughing at my high-water sweatpants I inherited after our...

Police, Santa Claus and Teachers…

God is different than I thought He was. He is funnier than I thought He was. God is more compassionate than I thought He was. He is more concerned about my life than I thought He was. Basically, God is far more amazing than I ever thought He was.  Growing up in Christian home I naturally learned about what God has done for me on the cross because of His love, I learned how I stand alone on the grace of God and I learned what it means to live a Christian life. Yet, knowing the right answers when people ask about your relationship with Jesus Christ is completely different than...
