Are you married?

Yesterday Sam, Ashley, and I were just innocently standing by the side of the road waiting for Eugene to come pick us up. When suddenly this rather tall woman approached us, speaking to us in Swahili at first because Ashley was there and they all think she’s African. We told her that we weren’t understanding so she started speaking the small amount of English she knew. She proceeded to ask us each to give 10 shillings to her daughter, we all didn’t have any money on us so we said sorry we can’t help you. But she didn’t stop there… she reached behind me and put her hand IN my back pocket to make sure I wasn’t lying to her. WAY too close for comfort! I was at a loss for what to do or say to this woman. She was the pushiest woman I have ever met, granted we are in Africa… everyone's pushy, that's just how the African culture is. She didn’t give up or leave us alone after that either. Oh there's more, she then asked us, “Are you married?” We all laughed and said no and told her how old we are. But to her it was funny that we weren’t married, and she started to tell us why we SHOULD be married. According to her a woman doesn’t eat or have a house if she’s not married. Next, for some reason she started talking really loud about us needing husbands. Then all of the sudden she just walked away, didn’t say anything about leaving, just walked away holding her daughters hand… This is Africa for you folks.
