Hi friends!
I am still behind on my blogging so this blog will be for the week of the 17-21st of July.
Everyday we have a morning ministry and an evening ministry. During this week, our evening ministry was the crusade. Around 4 o'clock everyday we would go to the next town over and we would hold a revival on a little stage in the middle of a field. We sing some African songs and worship for awhile then we would all sit down and listen to a preacher preach a message in swahili without an interpretter. After the message there is an altar call and people go up for prayer. So many people got saved at these revivals. I met a little girl named Emma at the revival. She taught me how to dance like a real African. Get ready, America. Im bringing my moves back!
On Saturdays, our ministry in the mornings is playing futbal with the street kids. We grab a ball and just head to a dirt field and the kids are already waiting for us. These kids literally have no homes and no parents. All but one sniff glue and paint thinner to get high and to forget about their hungry bellies. It is heart breaking. You can smell it on them. They pour one of the two substances on a rag and hold the rag up to their nose when they wanna get high. I wish I could take away their rags and just give them food instead. Its not that easy though. The children are all boys and they are mostly between the ages of 8 and 15. The Americans always win when we play against them. We are undefeated 🙂 USA USA USA!!
We walk alot here in Africa. When we dont walk, we ride in a matatu or on boda-bodas. A matatu is a 15 passenger mini van. We usually squeeze 24 people into these small vans. Theres always room for one more! A boda-boda is a man riding a bicycle with a seat attatched to the back of it. The men here can ride super fast and its scary the way that they weave in and out of other bodas and cars. Whenever we ride them, we tell our drivers that whoever wins gets 5 extra shillings. They will do whatever it takes to win. I love it. I always am screaming "Araca Araca!!" which means "faster, faster!!!" America needs boda-bodas. They are very practical.
Almost every night our team sits down together and someone shares their testimony. I love hearing about the lives of my friends and it only brings us closer. It also shows us how to pray for each other in more strategic ways. I am convinced that I am going to come away from this trip with 21 new best friends. I cannot wait. What better way to get to know someone then to be stuck with them for 2 months in a foreign country where not many others speak good english?
I am having the time of my life and I am excited for every new day that God has given me here. Please continue to pray for me and my time here!
