A true Gift from God

I would like to introduce you to a wonderful woman named Regina. I met her last Wednesday at the hospital, and her story literally brought me to tears. My favorite part of the hospital to be in is the maternity ward with the new mothers and the new babies….go figure. 🙂 So, naturally this is where I was when I met Regina. Basically her story goes a little something like this…

Regina has two kids and a husband and home…and she was obviously in the hospital to give birth to her third-born. The story starts out last April when she decided she wanted a third child. After trying for a few months, she still had yet to conceive. Regina began reading the story of Sarah in the bible and prayed to God over and over “God, treat me like Sarah and give me this child.” Her incredible faith is SO inspiring! After two more months she conceived her baby boy, and she knew he truly was a gift from God. After becoming pregnant, she began struggling with her health and experiencing some problems. Her blood pressure continued to rise, and was becoming a threat. At three months pregnant, the doctor told her he wanted to terminate her pregnancy because it was both dangerous for the baby as well as for her life. Her blood pressure was rising so much that it was threatening to give her a concusion and damage her brain. Regina felt that God really wanted to give her this child and after a lot of prayer, decided to go against the doctor’s wishes, and keep the baby. She got almost to full term, but they had to induce labor three weeks early, because the baby was having trouble breathing and developing under all the pressure. So, she had the baby last tuesday. The baby was tiny, weighing only 4 pounds, and he had to be put on a ventilator and held in the ICU. Regina named her son “Gift” because she knew that he was a beautiful gift from God and she was very lucky to have him.

I went back to the hospital yesterday, and I caught Regina on her way to go visit Gift in the ICU. I was so blessed to be able to go in with her and meet Gift. He is SO beautiful and tiny! Just imagining how he feels being hooked up to all those machines and tubes brought me straight to tears. Also imagining how terrifying it is for Regina to be going through this and yet everytime I see her and talk to her, she’s just smiling and talking about how blessed she is!! That’s pure strength and joy in the Lord, and it truly is amazing to see!!

Gift will be in the ICU for quite some time as he continues to use a ventilator, and being fed by a tube. Please put Regina, Gift, and their family on your prayer list! Hopefully I’ll have pictures of them next week!!
