Last week we did door-to-door ministry. We broke up into groups of 2-3 people, each group with a translator, and we were released into the town of Mpeketoni. My door-to-door group consisted of myself and Jenna, and our translator, Moses.
Our first attempt at door-to-door ministry was probably one of the most awkward experiences of my life. The woman we tried to talk to wouldn't look at us and she got up and walked off while we were mid-sentence so she could go get her cell phone. Needless to say, when Jenna, Moses, and I left there, we were feeling rejected and a very discouraged.
BUT, the day got better. Way better. The last house we went to was the home of a young couple; Julius, Terri, and their two-week-old daughter, Florence. Julius's uncle, Wilson, was visiting him at the time. Wilson is a pastor in a town about an hour away from Mpeketoni and he seemed very excited that we were there to talk to his nephew and niece. As we began to form a relationship with this family, we started sharing the Gospel with them.
Wilson told the young couple that Jenna and I being there was a gift from God and that baby Florence was a gift from God. I could feel God in the room with us, and Terri looked at us and told us she wanted to receive Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. I went over to Terri and prayed with her, and she asked the Lord into her heart. At that moment that family was MY gift from God.
After Jenna and I left we knew we wanted to see that family again. We bought Terri a Bible and went back a few days later. Julius had many questions about Scripture that he wanted to talk to Jenna and I about. He told us he'd been reading his Bible everyday since we visited him. He told us the same day we came to see his family was also the first day he got to see his newborn baby girl, it was the first time he'd seen his Uncle Wilson in a long time, AND his wife got saved that day!
Needless to say, God has been working in big ways in the small town of Mpeketoni. I'm learning new things about my relationship with Christ on a daily basis. I want to thank everyone for supporting me through prayer and donations. I miss everyone so much and I can't wait to share with you more of what's been going on here in Kenya.
