When It Rains, It Pours!

When God answers prayers He doesn’t mess around!

If you’ve been reading the papers or watching the news you may know that Kenya is going through a massive drought.

Usually the month of June brings with it days filled with rain that water the crops and fields. Fields of maze, watermelon and other fruits and veggies provide food and a source of income for most families here in Mpeketoni, but it hasn’t rained for more than 2 or 3 minutes on maybe 2 or 3 different occasions since we’ve arrived on June 10th. Our team noticed the withering crops and droopy stalks of the fields—the dusty roads, and the distress on the faces of the people of Mpeketoni and decided to ask God to do something only He could do—bring the rain!

As a team we felt we needed to pray for rain for these people—both literal and spiritual rain. For the past couple of weeks we have been praying individually and together as a team. We have been walking through the market place and inviting people to pray with us at the local soccer field, and sending up prayers during days of open air preaching in town.

We knew God could hear us, but some of my team mates felt that He wanted us to tell others that we were asking for rain before He sent it—so they would know that when it did rain, it was because God in His awesome power and glory, wanted to do something good for His children.

Since Friday we have been preaching in the market, standing on a wooden stage while people go about selling and buying fruits, vegetables, clothing and other necessities. The choir from Christ The King International church sings songs of praise and worship and dance their hearts out as little by little the crowd grows larger and people come closer to see what all the noise is about. With people listening we began to sing and pray for rain, and on Saturday it began to sprinkle, and as we continued to sing it began to pour! Most people ran for cover under the tiny tin roofs or over hangs of surrounding buildings, but our team of “Mzungus” (white people) stood in the rain and sang! We were soaking wet sending up songs of praise and thanks to God! It was awesome!

As I’m writing this, it has been raining for a solid 30 minutes! And not just sprinkling, but POURING! It’s incredible and encouraging and you just can’t help but praise God for who He is and how He works!

So please continue praying for Kenya and praying for rain!

Pray that God will bring this dry land back to life as only He can do!
