Before I begin, I want to say that this first blog entry won’t be perfect or a masterpiece but it’s real and it’s from the heart.
I have learned so much about who God is through others here at training camp. The first night of our training camp teams had to experience what homeless life was like. During our journey my team came upon a man walking by himself. The first thing that struck me was the smile on this man’s face. As we stood shivering and began talking to this man I felt as if God was trying to talk to me. The man began saying how, although it was 1:30 in the morning and he didn’t don’t know where he was going to go, he knew he was going to do it with a smile on his face. He then began singing worship songs he had made up and had us join in with him. I couldn’t keep from starring at this man in AWE of his joy. It was clear that he cared deeply about spreading God’s glory through music. He continued to sing song after song continuously stating that God had given him a reason to smile and be joyful. As I stood there, the Lord spoke to me saying “Look at this man, he has no name, no money, and perhaps through the world’s eyes he has no hope yet he continues to be joyful and praise me for what I have done”. I remember specifically this man singing about water, and I later read Psalm 29 where in verse 3 it says “the voice of the Lord is over the waters”. The Lord speaks to people through different ways, and at this moment in time God used this homeless man singing about water to speak to me. I want to end this by quoting Psalm 29: 8-9: “The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, Glory!” May the Lord shake you, strip you bare, and reveal His glory through the power of His voice.
