So, Africa. I don’t even know where to begin. This trip has been absolutely amazing! I seriously love everything about this place and these people. Not to say that it doesn’t have its rough times, but the good times completely outweigh the hard. Everything here is beautiful. The sky is always showing Gods glorious creativity and the African trees are stunning! I love the Kenyan accents and the Children’s big white smiles! I love waking up at 5:30 every morning to go spend an hour with Jesus as I watch the sunrise and I love walking the dirt roads along side all the random farm animals. Im going to miss the crazy driving and nearly getting hit by boda bodas (bicycle taxis) every time we walk and all the Africans trying to teach us how to properly cross the street. Haha. Strangely enough, I’m going to miss everyone yelling “MUZUNGU MUZUNGU HOW ARE YOU HOW ARE YOU??” wherever we go. I’m also going to miss the encouraging Christian community we have as a team and prayer time with my roomies every night!
These last few weeks have been wonderful! We’ve spent a lot of time doing door to door ministry and I got to lead two people to Jesus! One of the ladies was a single mother with HIV and was completely hopeless. She was only 19 and she sobbed as she was telling us all of her problems. Our hearts hurt for her but we poured the love of Jesus onto her and told her how much he cares for her. She accepted the Lord which was Awesome! 🙂 We have also spent a lot of time at the orphanage and I am in love with that place! The kids are extremely sweet and so are the directors! One day they held a fashion show for the kids where each of the kids made their own clothes out of whatever they could find. This was mostly cardboard, food sacs, fabric, flowers, and chalk. They were absolutely precious! I want to do as much as possible for that orphanage. Some days they have a difficult time giving food to the children. They are trying to find sponsors but have not got a program set up completely yet. I’m going to sponsor two girls named Jacy and Chrestine 🙂 We also went out and bought clothes for some of the kids and gave them toothbrushes that I brought from home. (Thanks to my sister Danielle :)) One day we painted their nails and made bracelets with crosses! Each day we go there we just receive so much love from those precious children. They are such a blessing! We have continued our street kid ministry on Saturday and Sunday which has been awesome! We see the kids being treated so unfairly on the street and it really has changed my perception of them. Some see them as beggars and thieves, but I see them as my sweet friends who are hurting so much to receive the love that their life has lacked.
We spent 3 days in a nearby city named Kitale at a challenge farm. This farm is a place where they take street kids and council them and bring them to live there. It was started by an American woman and the place was extremely nice! They had lots for us to do which was awesome! We split up into six small teams and organized offices, stores, and painted different rooms. I had the opportunity to paint the generator room which was super fun! The kids there had amazing testimonies and such great love for us. Their love for God was inspirational and I definitely learned a thing or two from them. I hope that something like that can one day be started in Busia but it seems extremely difficult unless you have outside help.
Busia seems like home now and even though Kitale was great, its good to be back. It’s going to be heartbreaking to leave this beautiful place but I’m also super excited to see what God has in store for me at home. I hope all is well with everyone and I will see you in one week!
