Power Outages

We have a power outage here in Kijabe almost every night and headlamps are running low on battery. But there is one power source that is not even close to running empty and is shining bright and hovering over this team. Proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ with authority is so mighty, so powerful.

Every Tuesday we visit the Turkana Tribe in the Rift Valley to do hut to hut visits. A decent two hours spent driving in a full matato (14 passenger van) with no seat belts on a very rocky ground. No one looks forward to this drive and we constantly our fighting the intentions of our hearts the whole way over. This past Tuesday was my first day back in ministry since being discharged from the hospital and I really had to prepare my heart. Not just for the discomfort of the ride but also the many miles we would be walking out in the desert for hours. Why was God bringing me out here today?

Logan and I are ministry partners at the Turkana on Tuesdays and as we drove over we decided we should pair up with Holli and Kelli. Holli and Kelli had told us of their week before visiting a woman who’s was fighting a serious spiritual battle because of a witch doctor next door. Since we heard that, both Logan and I felt we were really being called to go over there and get to know her better. Holli and Kelli’s translator didn’t show so it was completely God’s will for our teams to join up.

When we arrived we were at least 8km away from where we were the week before and really disappointed we wouldn’t be able to see the witch doctor and the young lady Monica, who Kelli and Holli had visited the day before. After our second hut visit we had to take a moment and really press into where God was leading us, and that ended up to now be 6km away to the witchdoctor and Monicas house. We got in contact with all the other teams and told them where we were heading. As we walked we read out loud scripture the entire way fighting off the fears we had of facing the witch doctor. Matthew 10: 26-28 really spoke to us and once we arrived after walking for over an hour we spent awhile in prayer. We all felt the pressure and heaviness and we weren’t even there yet.

Monica invited us into her home and Kelli and Holli caught up with her about how her week had been since they had come the week before. After Logan started empowering her sharing verses like Luke 10:19 and Romans 8:38-39. She still could not stare anybody in the eyes and her entire body was facing the other side of the room. As Logan talked I listened and listened to God’s leading. After he finished I walked over and grabbed her hand, made eye contact with her and told her she has the power of the Holy Spirit in her. The authority in her, by the blood of Jesus Christ. I talked and she could hold a good few seconds of eye contact. Then I began to scream, “Jesus Christ!!” she started to whisper it. I would yell it back and she began to get louder and louder.

By the end she was up on her two feet, fists in the air screaming Jesus Christ at the top of her lungs. The victory in that moment was one of the most beautiful sites I’ve ever seen. Wearing a full smile, claiming the authority of Christ. No power outage here, I can’t wait to see how God continues to empower this woman. Especially now that she recognizes the authority alive in her and that all it takes is saying “Jesus Christ” to cast out the evil spirits she feels at night coming from the witch doctor. As for the witch doctor we didn’t catch them, but did dig crosses all around their hut and make their little 6 yr. old daughter scream Jesus Christ. We will be making a visit back there.

2 Corinthians 3:17

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is FREEDOM”

oh sweet sweet victory and yes once again freedom reigns.
