Paul and John

Paul and John are brothers. Paul is 17 years old and his older brother John is 22. Over the past three weeks I’ve had the opportunity to read God’s word, pray with, played games, built lego
houses, and just got to hang out with them. God opened a lot of doors
and we really built a relationship and have gotten to know each other
the past few weeks.

Paul was run over by a truck when he was
only 3 years old. Surviving this incident was in itself a miracle. The
accident left Paul paralyzed from the waist down. Wound from the
accident got infected and spread down to his bones then all the way
down his legs. He had multiple skin graphs and was bound to a
wheelchair. After spending 6 years in a wheelchair Paul developed
spinbifida and has been in and out of the hospital since the year 2000.
He has been here in Kijabe Hospital since September of last year. He
was admitted for bed sores
that again got infected and has spread through out his legs. Paul has
countless scars and wounds from his lower back down to his ankles.

Since both parents must work or try to find some kind of work. Paul’s
older brother John has been left to take care of Paul for as long as he
can remember. John is an incredibly strong person who has been through
more than most would endure in a lifetime. After high school John went
to school to be a carpenter. Along with this, John began to face what a
lot of college students in America face as well. Peer pressure
led John into using drugs. He told me he used marijuana (which they
call bang) along with cocaine and other miscellaneous drugs. All while
trying to take care of his brother Paul. He would steal from anyone,
even his own family to support his habits. John’s grandma and a teacher
from school, who was also a pastor, began to notice the physical and
spiritual deterioration. They began talking with him and trying to get
him to change the way he was living his life. It wasn’t until October
of 2007 when john began to listen to his loved ones

around him. His
eyes were opened he said God changed the way he thinking. He began to
realize that it wasn’t just his life he was risking but the life of his
brother Paul’s as well. John began to go to church and starting seeking
Jesus. He stood up against the peer pressure and started telling his
friends about Jesus. He told them Jesus is the reason he will not ever
fall back into the drugs again.

    I was shocked when John
shared his testimony with me. You can tell by the picture above how
young they both look. Everyone is Kijabe Hospital love John and Paul.
During the past weeks I have not once seen either of them complain or
upset. No one understands how they are so stress free and happy all the
time amidst their situation. John just tells them they have a peace
from Jesus, and just like the scriptures say, it passes all
understanding.

Today was my last day with John and Paul.
We hung out all morning outside in the sun and just talked about life,
and we played cards. I even showed them some card tricks. It was a
great time and I really enjoyed their company. Paul will be released
early next week. Lets all pray that he will stay healthy and they
continue to feed off the strength and love God provides for us all.
