Hello everyone and I’m sorry that it has been so long since my last blog. I want to apologize also for my blogs…please try to remember that I only got a C in English! Our lives in Kenya have been pretty crazy so far, but we all have learned so much already. We started off with the Maasai which was a very challenging first week, then started our ministry in Kijabe, and are now really trying to figure out just where the Lord wants us to be. We have been going to the displaced persons camp for the past two saturdays, but we all come out feeling a little fustrated. It’s hard to know that people are only coming to fellowship so that they can receive a bag of ugali. We can’t just not hand out the food because this is the only food these families get for the week and God has given us the resources to be able to do it. Right now we still have no idea what exactly our ministry is in this place.
So today and last Tuesday we got to go and spend some time with the Turkana tribe outside of Kijabe. I was in a group with Jenna G, Regan, and our translator Peter.(Peter is 6’8”, probably 140lbs, and recently just produced a CD which he sang every song off of.) We got to go to a different area of the tribe than where we were last week, but it was SOOO worth it. The first man we met was older and live on this land with his wife and children. He was a believer so we shared some words of encouragement with him and then prayed over him. This whole time my eyes had been hurting and I figured that it was just because I didn’t have any sunglasses, but I wasn’t really listening to God because I was letting all the flies distract me. Before we prayed, we asked him if there was anything the he really needed prayer for and he told us that he had been sick to his stomach and his eyes had been hurting him. We prayed, said goodbye, and went on our way. The next person we met was an older lady who took care of her sick grandson and younger boy. She was also a believer so we talked to her and tried to get to know her a little bit. We found out that she has been sick as well with stomach problems and frequent headaches. We prayed, said goodbye, and went on our way. When we got outside the gate of the fence, I turned to the group and told them that we needed to pray because I could physically feel the pain of her headaches. The moment I was done praying the headache was gone and we went to the next house. The last person we talked to today was a lady named Alice. Alice’s house had been destroyed by the large amounts of rain that they had received in January, so she was currently staying with the neighbors, She told us that she believed in God and went to church, but she wasn’t saved and didn’t even know who Jesus Christ was. So i started out by just telling her who He was and why He had to come to the earth. The Holy Spirit was just pouring out of all three of us and it just seemed like our mouths couldn’t keep up with what God was telling us. We talked to her about Jesus and having a relationship with Him for about thirty minutes and then prayed over her. She told us that she simply wasn’t ready for a relationship with Jesus yet, As soon as we were done praying for her my left knee was hurting really bad. I thought that it was just because I had been standing on the leg for a long time and decided not to say anything about it. But right before we walked away I just had to ask her if her left leg was hurting. She told us, “My left leg is sick.” She went on to say that she has pain in her whole left side! I was pretty amazed becasue I thought that she was going to totally shut that feeling down. I prayed for healing over her body and her heart and we said goodbye.
Before this trip, I would have never thought that my knee hurting could possibly relate to someone else’s physical pain. God showed me so much today about really listening to the Holy Spirit and saying what He has given us!
Blessings,
Jenna
