My first couple days of training camp have been full of many new experiences. From rolling my two suitcases down the streets of Atlanta, to being spit in the face by the “natives” we were attempting to evangelize to, its been real fun to say the least.
One of our first true tasks at training camp though was to go out and evangelize to people on the streets. It was really the first challenge we had to start stepping out of our boxes and doing things most of our group had never done before.
We were split up into small groups and eventually given a dollar that we would pray to God about and see who He wanted us to give it to. Almost immediately after I went off to pray alone I was approached by a man, who’s name I don’t remember. He told me he was homeless and needed 50 cents to take the train and pickup his girlfriend. He also told me he had bone cancer and was really struggling with just getting by. I told him I would give him the money and asked if I could pray for him. He said definitely yes, so I just prayed that whatever he was struggling with and whatever he’s done in the past that God would forgive him and how God would never stop loving him.
Once I was done he reached out his hand, thinking he wanted the money I placed the dollar in his hand, but he said no, he wanted to pray for me. After he was done praying he left saying I should read Matthew 5:16 which says “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven”.
It was an amazing experience that really showed me how much God could actually use me and it made me even that much more excited about going to Kenya. Anyways, next time I blog i’ll be in Africa, later.
