So this is going to be an absurdly short blog post, but short is sweet. Anyhow…this has been the most intense two weeks of my life, and not just because we're in tents…
All expectations have been shattered and Ive been stuck scrambling to pick up the pieces. To be honest, there has been a lot going on in the past fortnight that has genuinely defeated me. But there was a silver lining somewhere amongst the grey clouds of my mind – I was able to teach on Wednesday!
For those who may be unaware, I graduated this past May with a Bachelor's degree in Social Studies and English for Secondary Education, but I had been a little bit leery about pursuing teaching as a profession. As a matter of fact, I had gotten pretty burned out during my student teaching. But teaching on Wednesday brought the joy back! I taught an English class about noun phrases, and my 22 high schoolers surprised me with their knowledge of English and their ability to adapt to the first white person many of them had ever seen. They were so attentive and pursuant in their studies. It was an incredible experience and made me realize what drew me to teaching in the first place – the smiling faces of children eager to learn.
*Yes, I know that sounds like a cliche, but it's actually pretty true. I had an amazing time with them!!!
Until next time,
Ryan
