So this week has been pretty crazy. We have had our 6 am prayer meetings, playing with kids while they’re on break, crusades in the afternoon, then supper, and revival until after 10. Needless to say, I’ve been exhausted at the end of the day and my sleeping bag feels like heaven. Tile floor never felt so good. 🙂
I also did get some down time this week though which is good. We each had a night off from the crusade and revival, and mine was Thursday. I had a good time with Nate, Josh, Brad, and Christina going through town and to the market, helping Mary (chef) cook supper, and watching Mulan. I bought 4 movies for 150 shillings (about $1.80) only to find out yesterday morning they’re blu-ray and not a dvd. You win some and you lose some.
We also all had Tuesday off since our schedule got crazy Wednesday and didn’t slow down til today so Stacy, Katie, and I decided to go for a run. We got lots of stares, but the best was still yet to come. We live right next to a boarding school and the upper 2 levels can see over the fence into our yard. After our run, Stacy and I were still working out when we look over to see a lot of school kids making fun of us big time. What do we do? Wave and go back to making fools of ourselves. Successful day I’d say.
God’s been showing me some good stuff this week and I love it! It hasn’t been anything life-changing or something I would only see in Africa, but it’s been good all the same. Last summer I stopped just reading the Bible and started studying it, and that was awesome, but now I see it even more differently. It’s like God plays it out for me and the more I study it the more I’m finding out. I’m seeing how things connect and how different parts of the bible relate to each other. God has really been revealing himself to me!
One bad thing about being here is that Mary is such a good cook! 2 nights ago we had beans, rice, and chipati and I stuffed myself. Unless I want to start rolling myself to church, I need to learn to say no to good food. But at least we’re having an optional fast for breakfast and lunch this week. Also, we’ve found ice cream and chocolate at some stores. It’s so good and so easy to stop in and get some. I never expected to eat so much while I was here. And sadly I bought an orange fanta the other day. After not having any cokes for over 6 months, Africa has broke me of that.
Please be praying for my team; we definitely need it now. We’ve had 1 for sure malaria case, 2 stomach infections, one girl going home due to a heart condition, and others getting sick. Also be in prayer for ministry this week. We’re either going to be doing door-to-door in the mornings or ask God and see what he wants us to do.
Africa is going awesome and I’m loving my time here. And if you could see me right now you’d be super jealous of my awesome farmers tan! 🙂
