A lot has been happening in these last couple weeks in Kenya! 3 weeks ago we were told that 150,000+ people are affected by a drought around Mpeketoni. The crops are dead which makes it hard for people to survive and make a living. They have to ship in food from other cities, and depend on other ways to make money, and eat. We have “droughts” in America, but I have never had to depend on God for providing rain so that we can eat or survive. After hearing about the drought and how much it’s affected these people who we are ministering too, we began to pray for rain. We felt that God wanted us to tell people that we were praying for rain so that when it rained, they would know that the rain comes from God! We needed to plant seeds before they were fed! We went into the market with the translators and told as many people as we could that we were meeting everyday at a certain time at a field to pray for rain, and we wanted everyone to join. Every time we would start praying, the dark clouds would roll in and when we would stop praying they would go away. We continued to pray for rain, and after begging God for 2 weeks he gave us rain! It has almost rained for a whole week! Every time it starts raining we jump for joy and yesterday we danced in it! God is sooo good! Me, Hayley, and Logan have built a relationship with a Muslim woman named Halema and on Tuesday we walked in the rain to go visit her and she knew we had been praying for rain and the first thing she said was, “You prayed for rain and God answered your prayers.” We hung out with her on Thursday too and we have been able to learn a lot about her Muslim faith. We got to experience her in a frantic trying to finish cooking lunch so that she could do her 2 o’clock prayer towards Mecca. They tell you that praying 5 times a day at a specific time to get into heaven isn’t a burden and its not hard but we first handedly got to experience her sweating and in a very stressful prayer to Ala. It was good to experience that and learn more of their religion in a casual setting and to see their religion and how it burdens their lives.
On Tuesday we went to the hospital to pray healing over sick people. My team and our translator had finished with our side of the hospital and our team wanted to come together and pray for a 19 year old man with cerebral malaria. It was beginning to paralyze him and was affecting his brain. His arms were bent near his chest, his hands were curled up and unable to completely open. He was unable to talk. His eyes were yellow and full of mucus. He had a lethargic look on his face that reminded me of death. The team prayed for him all at once out loud and after we prayed he slowly sat up and tried to make his arms straight. He slowly got up off his bed and tried to walk. There was no progress with his health immediately after we prayed. BUT, the man BELIEVED that he could be healed! He sat back down and we prayed for him again. He were begging God to let him walk out of the hospital with NO malaria. We also prayed for his test results and that the results would show no sign of malaria. We all felt the Holy Spirit and we proclaimed in Jesus name that he would be healed! One of our translators told us that visiting hours were over and that we had to leave, so we said our goodbyes and continued to pray for him to ourselves at home. A couple hours later during visiting hours a couple of people from our team went back to the hospital to check on him and he was walking, feeding himself, able to put his arms all the way out, and his eyes were clear and he was TALKING! His test results had come back and there were NO SIGNS of malaria! He was being discharged, and sent home!!! I have always had faith the size of a pea, but being apart of Gods miraculous healing over this 19 year old boy made God and his amazingness even more real for me!
My time in Kenya is ending so fast and I just want to thank all my supporters for helping me get here to tell people about Jesus and I'm so thankful for all that God is doing here! I'm learning that Hemet, CA is the same as Mpeketoni, Kenya! These people are broken just as much as people in America who need to hear about Jesus! We have the FREEDOM to tell people the TRUTH and not be afraid to share it!!! Today could be your last day, don't waste it!
