We have now been here in Busia for about 2 weeks and it is much different than at our first ministry site. First of all, all of us 9 girls are sharing the same room J and all 13 of us are sharing one shower and 1 toilets. You can say that we are finally starting to understand more and more of what it means to live in actual community. World Race groups and a Real Life group have been here before in Busia and they have prepared the way for us! People here are hungry for God and even though the spiritual atmosphere here is dark and we are feeling the spiritual strongholds more, people here are hungry for God!
In the mornings we have been doing door to door evangelism and I was blessed to have met Helen (the woman with the yellow on!) one of those days! Helen lives in a small room that is her living room, bedroom, kitchen, and anything else you could imagine- all in one room. Her house is about half the size of one of the bedrooms at my parents' house- and yet despite her circumstances all she cares about is Jesus! When I first saw her- I saw Jesus! Here is a woman (I cannot even guess at how old she is) who is barely struggling to survive each day and all I can see in her is JOY! We were able to spend some time with her and encourage her and speak some life into her. She wished she had something to give us as we left, but she gave us so much more than I ever thought I would encounter that morning! She blessed me so much and was such an encouragement. If only you could see the pure joy and life and love in her eyes!
We have also done crusades this past week and I am not kidding you- about 200 kids each day showed up to these crusades. Granted it probably had more to do with white people being there, but they always showed up. With these crusades, they just put up a stage and you can hear what is going on at the crusade from the house we are staying at! When the church sings songs, you should see these kids dancing! They are so full of joy and it is such a beautiful thing to witness!
Please keep on praying for Busia, for the church here, and for us. God is ready to do some harvesting and bring complete light into the dark here. Of course the enemy is not too happy about that so please just be keeping us in your prayers!
